How Gender Identity Disorder Is Not a Disorder

Topics: Gender Identity

I want to talk about gender issues. The definition of gender identity disorder is a condition in which there is a discrepancy between an individual’s assigned sex and gender identity, involving a strong and persistent identification with the other gender. Now this makes no sense to me so in my terms gender issues have to deal with same sex partners, transsexuals, and people who want a sex change. This book can say what ever it wants to but the author or authors are not lesbian or gay so they do not experience this.

I do not agree with what this text says about this subject. This in my opinion is not a condition it is a way of life. Transsexuals like who they are but want to try to be another sex which is nothing wrong with that. The main terms in this chapter would be sex, gender identity, and gender role. Gender is how a person sees themselves. Men and women are not that different.

Maybe in the genitals but that is it. This chapter also talks about lesbians, gays, transsexuals, and sex changes. This is a very interesting chapter.

Sex-typed preferences in three domains: do two-year-olds need cognitive variables? Most heterosexual folks know the difference between homosexual and bisexual, but to be on the safe side, lets address that topic. Homosexuals are individuals whose gender identity is associated with the same sex. Bisexuals are people who like and have partners of both sexes. Many people confuse transsexuals and homosexuals, especially with male homosexuals in drag.

Drag queens can be homosexuals, but transsexuals with homosexuals dressing as women are not necessarily drag queens. Transsexuals are people who have a deep unshakable conviction that their true gender identity is out of sink with their sexual identity. A female transsexual knows that she has the genitals of a woman but feels as though she is a man. Transsexuals feel trapped in the wrong body. Male transsexuals identify with the female sex and female transsexuals with the male sex. If one is born with clearly identifiable male or female genitalia, does one eventually become that sex in their gender identity.

Psychology has many theories about the complex process regarding the development of a persons gender identity as it coincides to males or females genitalia. Many psychologists refer to these individuals as having a gender identity disorder, and transsexuals, often go through extensive psychotherapy before it is determined that they are genuinely transsexuals, rather than individuals who are confused or sick. Transsexuals are l a class of their own and they often feel misunderstood. Many live very lonely and frustrating lives until they make contact with other transsexuals. There are transsexuals support groups that meet and socialize giving them an opportunity to cross dress and project the appearance of their gender identity.

Adolescents with gender Identity disorder who were accepted or rejected for their sex. Considering more recent social changes in the realm of sexuality we as a society have become desensitized in terms of how we respond to our sexually charged environment. Words such as homosexuality and cross-dressing are common terms, which we are easily to identify. Emphasized sexuality on prime time television and daytime dramas is at all time highs. Referring from the internet adolescents are faced with information overload on the subject issues of identity formation and internet addiction. Wit such influences, children are not able to sort through their opinions toward sexuality. Adolescence are not able to develop positive impressions of sexual identity and form healthy realistic viewpoints. Young boys have been known to I do not agree what so ever with the information from the sources. These people that are writing these papers and thesis’s and such are hey really gay or lesbian? I do not think that they are or they would give a positive point of view. I think that a person is one way or the other. Now people can choose to be gay or lesbian.

If a woman is not happy in her marriage and feels like another woman can make her feel better well that must mean she had some sort of inclination of wanting to be bisexual or lesbian. It is not wrong for a child to feel like maybe they like the same sexes because they are after all just a child. They might change their point of view at some point or maybe they may keep the same point. Most people will not come out of the closet because fear of what other people might say or thnk about them. When truthfully we are all the same except behind closed doors we share our bed with the same sex. Or some cross dressers like to dress in drag. People say that it is wrong in god’s eyes but who are we trying to live for to make happy it is ourselves not god. I do believe in god but I live my life for me not god.

In conclusion, This chapter is very controversial because of the topic. I personally do not think this is a disorder but a child could be thought of as having a disorder. Many children have a hard time dealing with the way people treat them when they talk a certain way, walk a certain way or act a certain way. The actual disorder here does not know what gender someone wants to be. The problem is the way adolescents and other individuals are treated when a situation arises.
