Does God Exist? Essay

The question “Does God exist? ‘ Is an extremely expansive and immense topic that has been debated for centuries. This question has plagued mankind since we began to think logically. It is difficult to say whether there may or may not be a god, or even many gods, as we have limited knowledge regarding this issue. We currently even question God’s existence today, however the answer can never certainly and truly be found. There is evidence supporting his existence, but there is also evidence suggesting that his existence is not genuine.

The famous teleological and ontological horses both link to each other for this topic, as they are both recognized for agreeing through reason that God exists, however this Is opposed with the situation that they are based on common sense, but not fact, a belief that Descartes would agree with. The argument about God’s possible existence also leads many to believe that we created this figure to look to for guidance, to have someone to lead us, and also to blame. Both teleological and ontological arguments stand on reason alone.

The ontological argument argues that since existence Is possible, to exist Is greater Han to not exist, thus God must exist. This concept portrays that someone declaring that “God does not exist” is contradicting, as according to this argument this would mean that something greater would have to exist, which Is not possible because you cannot have something greater than that which no greater can be formed. The teleological argument debates that it takes a designer to have a design, and in this case, the ‘designer’ is God.

This originates from the word tells, which means purpose, or goal. Every life form on Earth Is highly complex, such as a strand of DNA, intonating all programming for our entire bodies to function properly. Due to this theory, it cannot be a coincidence, as the chance of this randomly occurring is beyond imagination. Someone with an intention had to have existed to purposefully create such complex things. These philosophical hypothesis prove to an extent, that there Is a God-Like figure out there.

These arguments however, are both cemented by reason and common sense but not fact, which challenges the core thinking of what they both suggest. This interestingly links to Descartes, who believed hat there is more truth In intellect, rather than your common sense. Descartes viewed God as a perfect being. In order for people to have flaws and Imperfection, there must be an example of perfect flawlessness. Hence God exists because he is the representation of perfection in this theory. He famously states “Who keeps me in existence?

If owe it to myself, I would have given to me all sorts of perfections… Yet, evidently I am not perfect. ” By this, Descartes Is questioning who keeps him In existence. He states that If t was himself, he would have granted himself perfection, et he is obviously not perfect, proving in his philosophy that a higher being must exist, higher than human beings to grant and model perfection, portraying his view on the existence of God. Descartes believed that we as humans need a figure to look up to as an example and a leader. Our world revolves around leadership.

From leading a choir in a concert, to prime Minster, our world would run into chaos without it. God is a being of hope and a perfect figure to look up to for many. He is an pieces many people’s worlds together through religion, as that is what they choose to Ochs their life on and because of this, he gives people an idea of purpose in their lives. According to Plat’s theory of forms, for all things that exist (e. Emotions, physical objects) in our physical world, there is an ultimate or perfect form of it in another dimension, which in this case would be God.

He exists in our beliefs and imaginations because he is a leader to us, meaning that God does exist, simply not in this dimension. This ancient debate has evidence reinforcing that God is real, but is also balanced out by the evidence and opinions retaliating against this. People form their own opinions about this query by using their own Judgment and common sense, which is why the teleological and ontological argument applies so efficiently to this question. They both examine and verify rationally that God is genuine as a real being.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Descartes relied more on logic to consolidate his belief. He believed that if people were to have flaws and imperfections, we need an example of perfection to form this belief of imperfection, which is God. In a sense, God is a guide for us to understand our faults and blemishes. This points to Plat’s theory of forms, which also proves God’s existence in his concept. Because we have imagined, and ‘invented’ this idea of God, he is then certainly real in another dimension. Although these prove God’s existence, they only prove his existence in their philosophy and beliefs, and because of this, it can never truly be discovered if God is real or not, due to our insufficient knowledge about him.

Does God Exist Essay

In this essay I will argue for and against God backing up my ideas to form a logical argument on both sides. I will use different points to back-up my ideas. In my judgment, yes, God does exist. God is beyond space, he is possibly a form of light, or could perhaps be a spirit that is supreme. He created us humans for us to worship Him and use him as our roll model. The definition of the word “God” basically explains Him in full detail. God is the creator and ruler of the universe, in Christian, Muslim and Jewish teachings. He is a superhuman, being worshipped, as having power over nature, and all human affairs.

He is also greatly benevolent. Some people may ask the question: “Why does god leave us to suffer if he is compassionate? ” well, there are several possibilities as to why God lets us suffer, one of the greater possibilities, is that God has put us in this Universe, to see whether we can avoid, and battle off evil, in this case the Devil. The best way of putting it, is that God actually put us here as a test, to see whether we will obey him, or not. However poor or rich you are, you should never fail to remember that God put you in that position to see if you would be content with what you have been given, or basically just want more.

The teleological argument is a good example for this. A watch is found on a heath, we cannot plainly say, that it evolved from the ground, surely somebody must have made it and a form of life could possibly have dropped it there. The point that I am trying to make is that everything was created, and everything was created for a purpose. Furthermore, is that, God is our creator meaning that everything was created besides Him. There has to be a creator, since we humans are not “just here” there must be a reason for our presence in this Universe.

We cannot just live and die, and not be judged for our deeds. Man cannot bear to think about a deed not being rewarded or punished. Examples of which are Mans justice system and awards given to lifetime achievers. To argue against “evolution-believers”, a test on Lemarck’s Theory (that animals evolve features according to how much they utilize them) has been comprehensively disproved by experiments on mice that had their tails cut off for generation following generation still grew tails just as long even though their forefathers made no subsequent use of them.

But, there is always another part to this argument; there are some very significant questions in opposition to God and some questions that have not been answered yet. One question, is that if God is truly benevolent, then wouldn’t he be heart broken as to see his creations suffer? He would be omnipotent as to wipe out the Devil, and see his creations live a good quality life, without pain or misery, wouldn’t he? If God undoubtedly created all life, then wasn’t he created? He could not have plainly “just been there”, where is he, and how can he be omniscient?

Being omniscient seems impossible if you come to think about it, but certainly he could not be looking over everyone at all times. God, must have helpers, these could be the Angels. But he must have an uncountable number of Angels to be able to know every tiny aspect of every human, or existing thing on the whole Universe. Gods Angels would be taking over Gods job, so these helpers would surely be considered as a type of God too. How can we believe that there is a God, if he has never let us experience him, only by the religious books, but were those books really made up by God?

A good God would not like to see his creations suffer, and declare war on each other. He would want all living aspects to have peace. Nobody yet, has proven that there is a God, given that there is not enough information or proof. But then again, there is not enough proof that there is not a God too. A lot of religious people say that you do not need any form of evidence to say that there is, or is not a God; you basically need faith. If you have faith in God, then you know for sure that there is one, and he is on your side, at all times.

But, on the other hand, if you do not have any faith in God, then you clearly do not believe in him, and God may not at all times be on your side. We cannot say that we are not here for a cause, as a number of people say that we cannot have another life, “Where would our souls go? ” They ask, but that would not be answerable, as I stated before, we do not have enough proof at all to evidently say that there is, or is not a God. But faith is not all you actually need; you need to be able to practice your religion if you have one, and make sure that you are always aware that God is on your side.
