Costa Rica is a small, mountainous country in Central America. It is bordered by Nicaragua on the north, the Caribbean Sea and Panama on the east, and the Pacific Ocean on the south and west. A chain of rugged mountains stretches across central Costa Rica from northwest to southeast. A few of the highest peaks in this chain are active volcanoes. Tropical forests grow on the country’s coastal lowlands.
In the Early 1500 Spanish explores arrived in the country now known as Costa Rica.

Rumors that there were hidden gold and precious metals were in this unknown land at the time. This led the Spanish explorers to name the land Costa Rica, which meansrich coast.But the explorers found that the area a very little mineral wealth.
There are approximately 3.6 million inhabitants whose native langue is Spanish. Other languages such as English, French, German and Italian are frequently spoken and the foreign visitor will find it easy to understand.

There are seven province which make up the country: San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia, Pun arenas, Cartago, Guanacaste and Limon.
Costa Ricans are commonly know as Ticos. They are famous for their hospitality and are quite happy to live up to their reputation. Ticos are well educated and hard working people. They are also very friendly, quick to handshake and smile. They help foreigners when they get lost.People say that Ticos are their nation;s greatest asset .
Costa Rica is republic with political power distributed among the following governing bodies: The executive branch, Legislative branch and Judicial branch.
