Have time to prepare your properties and the most important thing is make your safety and the family’s safety a priority.

Preparedness and safety are the key, and it should be your top priority.

My first point is floods are pretty destructive and sometimes you will never know when it will come. It can come into regions and areas that have never seen rainfall so we better be aware. Sometimes due to climate change, some areas not experiencing heavy rains suddenly will be beset by it either by thunderstorms or tropical depressions.

And we have a saying when it rains, it pours so much so that rivers and other waterways become clogged thus floodings happen and the timing is not sure it may even come in the dead of night. Our planet is changing and with it also our climate, some areas already are flooded not be because of rains but of rising tides in our oceans.

The second point is you better be prepared, if not, the recovery might be slow, stressful and costly. Surely most of us remember the tragedy in areas hit by typhoon Yolanda. Even up to now, with help from the government, private sectors and other NGO’s still some areas have not fully recovered from the destruction and loss of properties and lives. LGU’s already have designated evacuation centers and have disaster preparedness programs to help the communities be prepared in case of such emergencies. One only need to get in touch with the local barangay officials and also the municipalities or cities where you reside. Preparedness and safety are the key, and it should be your top priority.

The third point is to have time to prepare for properties and most important thing is make your safety and your family’s safety a priority. There are a lot of resources now that provide information for preparedness also some stores are selling flood survival kit that includes food, water, blankets, flashlights, hygiene kit and other necessities. Our homes can be safeguarded by making sure our properties are kept on high ground and free from the reach of flood waters and mud. Also practice with the family for emergency evacuation just in case the flood waters are high because preparedness and safety are the key, and it should be your top priority.

In conclusion, floods like any natural disaster cannot be avoided but we all can be prepared for it. Floods are pretty destructive and you will never know when it will come. You better prepare for it because if not, the recovery might be slow, stressful and costly. Have time to prepare for your properties, make yourself and your family’s safety a priority. Vigilance and know how on what to do in case it struck, can mean one’s safety and that of our family. Be sure to be prepared always and have stock of basic necessities to avoid inconveniences and panic. Thank you.
