Using the MBTI Self-Reflection Indicator

MBTI stands for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It is a personality type indicator. According to MBTI theory, there are about 16 various types of personalities possible. All human beings have one in these 16 types. Personalities can be found out by observing the four basic preferences that we have set for ourselves. These are the four parameters to test our personality. According to MBTI below are some questions that we should ask ourselves in the process of knowing our personality:

How Do You Gain Energy?

We as human beings have a tendency to receive energy either from outside world or from inside ourselves.

People who gain energy from outside world are the ones who find it easy to interact with the outside world and they are known as Extroverts (E) while there are some other kinds of people who gain energy with their inside world, by talking to themselves about their ideas and beliefs and they are called as Introverts (I). Introverts are silent while Extrovert are believed to be loud.

Silence for an Extrovert is a space to be filled while silence for an introvert is a space to be cherished. We are believed to have both in ourselves, we just prefer one above another.

How You Gather Information?

The next preferences pair is Sensing(S) versus Institution(N). A person with a sensing lens sees the world practically and they believe on facts and figures while a person with an intuitive point of view will think about possibilities and imagine unrealistic things.

How You Make Decisions?

Here the Preferences pair is Thinking(T) versus Feeling(F). Thinking types prefer to make decisions logically, they will look at the pros and cons of a situation before making decisions. They are impersonal to the outside world. Feeling types prefer to make decisions with their heart, they deal situations with harmony and personal relations. They may not say the truth keeping in mind that it may hurt somebody.

How Do You Relate to the Outside World?

Here the preference pair is Judging(J) versus Perceiving(P). Judging types are people who plan their life, they are list makers and work before play types. They live a planned life. Perceiving types go with the flow, they least plan their life and take life as it comes.

Keeping in mind the above parameters of:

  • Extrovert (E) versus Introvert (I)
  • Sensing(S) versus Institution(N)
  • Thinking(T) versus Feeling(F)
  • Judging(J) versus Perceiving(P)

MBTI 16 personality types are as follows:

  • ISTJ

  • Crafter ISFP
  • Composer INFP

MBTI Assessment Versus Actual

It was fun to take the MBTI test. I got to know myself better. According to the test I am an ESTJ which relates to supervisor, an extrovert with the sensing lens. Moreover, I think practically and live a well, planned life. When it comes to my real life, I am no different. I have always led a practical life. To me facts and truth matters the most. I am not a person who will easily be drawn away by feelings. I maybe harsh and rude sometimes to people. Moreover, coming to the point of introvert and extrovert, I guess I am more towards the side of extrovert than introvert. But I feel I do have an introvert side too. I love spending time alone and loneliness doesn’t make me depressed. Moving on, I love and enjoy planning my life. I have many future plans too and I know I will succeed in them. At the end, my real life is almost similar to the result of MBTI assessment.

Personality Strengths

MBTI is all about knowing your personality better. It does not define any of the four attributes as better or worse. But at the end we all have all the attributes defined in MBTI inside us. It just a matter of preferences, what we prefer above what. I believe that one of my strongest strength is that I belongs to judging category. I have a well, planned life. Planning makes my life sorted. Moreover, prevention is better than cure and therefore planning your way is always better than going on unplanned ways. Then, thinking logically over a situation is very important, we need to be practical when it comes to making serious decisions. Going weak over a situation does no good. Hence, I consider logical thinking and being practical as my strength.

Contribution to the Team

When it comes to a team, the most important thing is to see that the people are ready to work together. I would always look into relations a team has with one other. They should work while keeping their personal feelings aside. Moreover, I am good at planning and hence I will contribute my plans to the team with a definite goal and objective. A team should always be motivated towards its goal. Therefore, having an open conversation, clearing everyone’s doubt about whatever they feel will help the team staying motivated. A team leader should always be practical in thinking. If he/she feels that a person is not good for its team then no matter what the leader should put that person immediately out of the team rather than getting emotional about his/her relation with that person. Getting sad and depressed over a loss is only waste of time, as a team we should take a loss as a lesson and move forward with more strength. I believe all these teamwork conditions will lead a team to success.
