THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS

Introduction

Nowadays, students focus in studying with their own purposes to achieve something in the future. However, it is inevitable to admit that studying gives pressure and stress to learners. Stress hinders students in pursuing their desire of having good grades. Stress is the body’s way of responding to any kind of demand. It can be caused by good and bad experiences. Stress leads many students into negativities, doubts and low self-esteem.

Stress is the process by which an individual reacts when opened to external or internal problems and challenges.

“The organism processes numerous systems to coordinate such adaptive responses both at systematic and cellular levels “by this, stress has direct effect on the brain and the whole anatomy of the body as such failure to adapt to a stressful condition can result in brain malfunction, physiological problem and also many areas of psychological challenge’s in the form of depression, anxiety, pain and burnout.

Physiologically, stress-related diseases in the form reproduction, cardiovascular, metabolism and gastrointestinal diseases are determined by great areas of genetic and developmental factors which are different from a person to a person but also symptoms of this disease may be similar sometimes among individuals (Hellhammer, 2008)”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has labeled stress as the “health epidemic of the 21st century” exerting significant burdens at all levels of society. In fact, the WHO has concluded that problems and disorders related to stress are common and may contribute to over 50% of physician visits around the world with both internal and external stressors contributing to those increasing rates.

Stress is an inescapable reality in today’s world. Stress affects individuals regardless of socio-economic status, education, race, or creed. Addressing stressors at the individual and societal levels are imperative in decreasing the development of and improving management of chronic diseases, which can develop as a result of chronic stress. While many steps can be taken at the individual level, systemic changes are often required to address stress among different population groups.

Therefore, the researchers conduct this study to determine the ways cope with stress.

Statement of the Problem

What are the strategies in lessening stress among the Grade 12 STEM students?

Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:

• At the rate of 1-10, Rate the level of your stress?

• What did you do to lessen stress?

• What are the strategies that you recommend to lessen stress?

Assumption and Hypotheses

The researcher tested the hypothesis of the null form at the level of significance. There is a significant relationship in the strategies of lessening the stress of Grade 12 STEM students.

Significance of the Study

Moreover, the result of this study will be beneficial to the following:

Students, will determine the strategies in lessening stress of STEM Obelus Students

Parents, can help their children to cope with stress using the strategies that this study will provide.

Teachers, will help students in terms of giving advices in managing stress.

Future Researchers, this study may serve as their reference in conducting their studies in the future.

Definition of Terms

• Stress – something going on around them, their bodies react by releasing chemicals into the blood.

• Strategy – a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.

• Lessen – make or become less; diminish

• Students – a person who is studying at a school or college

Scope and delimitations of the study

The target participants are the Grade 12 Stem students. This study will be conducted at Tagaytay City Science National High School in School Year 2019-2020 who are experiencing stress. The gathering of data is through survey.

Conceptual Framework

This study intends to discuss the strategies in lessening stress of the students. The following expresses a graphic framework that explains the process of data to gather a quantitative result.
