Childhood obesity in United States has grown rapidly during the recent years. Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescent. Childhood obesity in a macrosystem is my topic. According to Bronfenbrenner, the Macrosystem contains all of the various subsystems and the general beliefs and values of the culture, and is made up of written and unwritten principles that regulate everybody’s behavior. These principles- whether legal, economic, political, religious, or educational- endow individual life with meaning and value and control the nature and scope of the interactions between the various levels of the total social system.
For this assignment, I would like to take United States as my macro environment and tak about childhood obesity in United States. Obesity is caused by many factors; some of them can be genetic, biological and cultural factors. Childhood Obesity can be lead to many medical and life threatening condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep problems, cancer, and other disorders.
It can also affect a child both psychology and physically. There is no direct way to diagnosis obesity; the diagnosis of obesity is often based on BMI (body mass index). Obesity manly occur when a person eats more calories than the body burns, so the extra calories will converted as fat and stored in the body.
One of the main reasons why there are more obese children in the United States is lack of physical activity. Lack of physical activity can be caused due to the parent’s laziness.
When the parents are lazy, the child is more likely to be lazy. While I was growing up, I used to go out to the park and play with my friends. Nowadays kids will sit home, play video games all day and zip on their sugary drinks. Only way to prevent this is to force children to do regular physical activity, combined with healthy eating, is among the best strategies for preventing and combating childhood obesity, diabetes, and other obesity-related illness.
