The Presicecy Of Obama

When Obama first entered office as president of the United States in 2009, the percentage of people unemployed was at a high of 7.8%; because of Obama, that number steadily decreased to 4.7%, by the time he left the White House it rose again to a high 9.4% almost beating the high of 10% while he was in office. Obama had to deal with several different wars during his two consecutive terms. The world’s environment is steadily changing for the worse, but the Paris Climate Agreement signed by the U.

S. in Obama’s second term might have helped the world get back on track of taking care of the Earth we live on, but trying to keep the Earth clean would definitely use money. One of The United States’ strong suits is its economic system; keeping our economic status is the reason Obama was able to follow through with his healthcare plan. Health care is a very important achievement of Obama’s presidency, because his Affordable Care Act really did help uninsured Americans in the long haul.

Barack Obama took many different actions to reshape our country, including dealing with the leader of Al Qaeda ( a terrorist group), signing our country to the Paris Climate Agreement, trying to save our economy, and bringing health care to millions of people.

Obama dealt with a few wars during his terms, but the most significant were the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Obama entered the office in 2009 being an “anti-war candidate”, he later in his presidency admitted that “the longest military operation in American history would not end on his watch.

” According to the New York Times, Obama once thought Afghanistan was winnable, but grievous years in office turned him into “ the commander in chief of a forever war.” Although Iraq and Afghanistan never declared war on the U.S. and vice versa it sure did feel as if there was a never ending war going on between these three countries. Throughout Obama’s first presidential term there were almost 70,000 American troops fighting in Afghanistan. During his 1st term in August of 2010, there were about 100,00 U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan. On May 1st, 2012, during the dead night Obama went on a “secret” trip to Afghanistan, so he could sign an agreement with Afghanistan’s President at the time, Hamid Karzai, to “set the terms for the relations after 2014” stated New York Times. The U.S. was scheduled to withdraw its troops around this time to return the security of Afghanistan to the Afghans. Many people including Obama expressed that there should be more military troops in Afghanistan than in Iraq, because Afghanistan is where Al Qaeda, a group of terrorists that led the 9/11 attacks, are centered. In 2011 the leader of Al Qaeda and 9/11 attacks was killed by U.S. forces in a “ covert operation” in Pakistan. Obama’s opinions and thoughts have changed throughout his presidency, which is very disappointing. These wars definitely took a toll on our environment.

Saving our environment is a very controversial topic in the world, but the concern about the environment and climate change did bring 195 nation leaders including Barack Obama (the U.S. joined on September 9, 2013) to Paris to discuss the Paris Climate Agreement. There were three major countries that didn’t enter the agreement at the time, those countries were Russia, Iran, and Turkey. The Paris Climate Agreement is a “landmark environmental accord that was adopted by nearly every nation in 2015 to address climate and its negative impacts.” , according to the NRDC site. The big idea of the Paris Climate Agreement is to minimize worldwide gas emissions, trying to “limit the global temperature increase” for the century we’re living in, to 1.5 degrees Celsius and to become “carbon neutral”, meaning as much carbon dioxide put into the atmosphere is equal to the amount of carbon removed from it. Obama was able to enter the United States into the agreement through his “executive action” advantage. According to NRDC, “There’s a lot of misinformation” about the costs for the Paris Climate Agreement, especially the thought that the agreement will impact the U.S. economy. Fact ensures us that if we don’t take any action in the upcoming years the inaction will cost us way more than reducing carbon pollution. Also according to the NRDC, recent studies showed that if the U.S. fails to meet the Paris Climate Agreement, it could cost us up to six-trillion dollars in the years to come. Trying to keep our Earth from getting worse will cost us not just money but also time, however in the end all the work will benefit future generations.

Under Obama’s second term the average number of jobs gained was at a solid 220,000 a month. Raising the number of jobs gained a month really showed that Obama was trying to rebuild our economy. During the last 30 months of Obama’s time in office the G.D.P. ( Gross Domestic Product ), which is basically the measurement of the market value of all the goods and services produced in a specific time frame, was at an average of 2.4%, according to The New York Times article. This G.D.P. makes sense for the time period, because during Obama’s second term is when he really took a dive into providing health care to millions of previously uninsured Americans.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) also known as Obamacare helped about 30 million previously uninsured Americans. The ACA was signed into law by Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The ACA would make medical bills easier to cover and less expensive for Americans mostly based on their income. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act article in Britannica.com stated that the ACA was “widely considered the most far-reaching health care reform act since the passage of Medicare,” Anytime Obama’s presidency is discussed, the ACA is almost always the first topic discussed, the ACA is definitely considered one of Obama’s greatest accomplishments.

Obama assisted in rebuilding our nation by finding and killing the leader of the 9/11 attacks, signing the Paris Climate Agreement, trying to save our economy, and insuring over 30 million people with the Affordable Care Act also called Obamacare. We learned that Obama signed the Paris Climate Agreement to ensure our future generations have a healthy Earth. What happened in office that turned president Obama from an antiwar candidate to the “commander in chief of a forever war”? I think that being a well relied on person can change different views and opinions on different things. I recommend looking into Obama’s life before his presidency, to get a glimpse of who he was before his time in the White house.
