The existence and the technological development of robots have received support for its role to better human life as well as criticism as it can deteriorate the human society. Robots have been used in war, education, housework, healthcare and astronomical monitoring amongst others. In essence, therefore, robots are used to offer service to humans. The designers develop the robots with the purpose of assisting the human in their tasks but at times, the outcome may be negative causing issues such as weakened interpersonal relationships. Personally, I believe that robots development does not benefit society but is something that requires the humans to ensure they remain in control.
My first point will be talking about unemployment and social problems, my second point will be about the servant to master scheme, and my third point about how we end up relying too much on them before concluding my arguments. As a person who is against this topic, I am certainly no friend of it.
Before I start, what is the definition of a robot?
a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically. Please notice the word certain. Only certain movements can be replicated. A robot will never have such a complex system that we call our body. They will never be considered one of our own kind.
Firstly, about unemployment. Unemployment leads to turning to crime to solve problems. Imagine you are a woman who just got unemployed. You have no money and you have 2 children. You cannot afford to send them to school, put food on the table. You get stressed out and try to think of the possible ways to help. But you have no choice but to turn to crime. You get caught. You are put into custody. Your children have to be separated from you. How would you feel in this situation?
Unemployment will put up more problems such as our world becoming more marginalized than ever before. Unemployment leads to people feeling less confident, making them withdraw from society, which will leave them with problems such as feeling suicidal and depressed. This will lead to poverty. Not normal poverty but perpetuating poverty.
Unemployment in Spain went up 20-30 percent in the last ten years because of advances in technology.
Would you like this to be you in the future? Would you like to become unemployed?
Secondly, the servant to master scheme. You may ask what I mean by this. A robot is created to assist humans. But then it becomes so advanced till we cannot control it. It starts taking a mind of its own. It will lead to it wanting to dominate the human race, to control us. Think of the robot Sophia, who once casually said that she wanted to kill all humans. But it is not just one robot. As of 2019, there are millions of robots in this world. This will lead to it being our servant to dominating us and becoming our master. If this really does happen, this will lead to the downfall of humans.
Thirdly, self reliance. Are humans today relying to much on robots and are gradually becoming lazier. We are depending to much on robots to help us. Nowadays, jobs such as long-haul truck drivers, Taxi, ride-hailing, and delivery drivers, Customer service and office assistants, Healthcare workers, Warehouse workers, Assembly line manufacturing, Retail and customer interaction jobs and Writers.
Imagine if there are robot writers in the future. Most writers stories are based on experiences that have slowly cultivated over their years. A robot does not have the needed experience and skill to write these well spun tales.
