The Adverse Effects of Chemical Pesticides to Human Health

Topics: Pesticides

The subject of chemical pesticides is worldwide known because it is something that is being used in plants, crops, and in everyday foods that we eat. It has a huge effect on our health, and can have some serious effects on our immune system. It also is not good for the pollution either. Chemical pesticides have been used to limit the number of pests that damage crops and reduce farm productivity. The four types of pesticides that are common are insecticides, which kill insects, rodenticides, which kill rodents, fungicides, which control fungi, mold, and mildew, and last but not least, herbicides which kill weeds (Pesticides, 2013).

This topic fits under the immune system because chemical pesticides can be very harmful, and can damage our bodies when they are in foods that we eat.

By using chemical pesticides on crops, it can link to death and diseases of any sort. It is not good for us to be eating food that may consist of pesticides.

Indoor pollution is a main concern when dealing with pesticides because the same type of pesticides that help make grass grow or kill pests may be the same thing animals and children are breathing in either in the backyard or even inside the house. Chemical pesticides have a huge effect on your health, and can cause cancer and diseases in the nervous system. Pesticides have a huge effect on your health that causes diseases in the nervous system as well cancer. A research that was conducted by a research team in Toronto stated that people need to stay away from pesticides because they can link to some serious diseases.

The results from this study stated that there are serious health risks such as reproductive problems, nervous system diseases, and cancer. Diseases such as Parkinson’s, childhood leukemia, or even asthma are some of many that can occur. Just like feeding your body foods that have been processed might seem like a better fit than organic food that does not involve chemicals, it is the same thing when dealing with pesticides that are contained in products we use at home. There are a lot of products at home that we use that contain chemical pesticides that can affect us later on. Of course we are going to want to get rid of the bugs crawling around our house, but the products we use around our house are full of chemicals.

Pesticides can also cause indoor pollution because they can easily come from children or pets when they are playing around in the backyard. These chemical pesticides that you are breathing can come from chemicals that make your grass grow or chemicals that are used to kill pests. Chemical pesticides also effects what we eat because so much of what we eat is chemically processed. Close to about 70% of grain that is used is to feed farm animals in the United States has pesticides because they are made from heavy farming operations. The process begins right when the grain full of pesticides is used to feed livestock. After the farm animals have been fed, the number of pesticides adds up in the animal’s tissue which then goes into our bodies when we eat meat. Even some studies have been shown that those who are vegetarian may be more at risk of being exposed to pesticides than those who eat animal based products. The way they figured this out was picking foods that were a part of a vegetarian’s diet.

Fruit as well as vegetables were just some of the products that had contained chemical pesticides in order to keep them fresh. (Audenhaege et al., 2009). There have been many acts in place which have been made to reduce the amount of pesticides. This is to ensure people of the safety precautions that are being taken care of. There have been pesticides found in lunches that were being given to students in India. According to an article from CNN, pesticides were found in the oil that was being used to fry the food for free school lunches. This killed twenty-three students and resulted in twenty-five students being sick. Scientists found organophosphorus as well as monocrotophos, which are toxic to humans used as an insecticide (Singh and Watkins, 2013). They have tried to discuss how to improve food programs to avoid any more food being made in that type of environment.

To summarize, using chemical pesticides is not something that will benefits us in any means. It is bad for our health and can cause severe damage. A way to eliminate this problem, buying food that is organic and fresh is the better route. That way, you are eating something that is going to be healthy for your body, and it does not contain any chemicals. Even when we are cleaning around the house, we sometime tend to clean with our bare hands instead of wearing gloves, and that is something we should refrain from doing. Always keep your hands and eyes covered so that you are not in direct contact with pesticides.
