Although there is widespread talk about the harmful effects of tobacco use, fifteen percent of Americans in 2016, over eighteen repeatedly smoke or use tobacco to chew or dip.

If you smoke and decide to stop at any time, the good news is that it is still beneficial to quit regardless of age or history with tobacco.

If you are thinking about quitting, it requires acknowledging that you have a physical nicotine dependence and also changing your behavior. Because of this, the board and I have made a collective decision to change our benefit plan to include supportive programming.

We have also created new workplace smoking policies to show our commitment to the health and safety of our whole workforce, smokers and nonsmokers alike. Furthermore, details on the new policies with be provided later.

Before this memo was sent out, John Hansel had already gone ahead and developed an employee support program. This program is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and the support program has been created to help you and or your family members with any issues or concerns regarding quitting the use of tobacco. There is a team of well-trained people ready to help at any given time. To reach this service, please call (800) 222-5741 toll-free.

To continue, during the next couple of months, John Hansel will be giving out a range of information and resources to our employees to aid in making this important change for our workplace.

Please join me, the CEO of Hamlin, Hamlin, and McGill in committing to becoming tobacco-free. While tobacco use can be a difficult task to stop, you are not alone and the help you need is available now. Consider the information that was shared with you and help support the people around you who are also trying to live a tobacco-free life. The first steps of taking action take bravery and strength and together, we all can construct healthier well-being in our community.
