Stanford Symphony Orchestra Concert

Winner concert which was held in the Bing Concert Hall. Bing Concert Hall is the most convenient place for it is centrally located where every member of the Stanford Philharmonia can access. The Bing Hall has a Bing studio for audition and recording, the hall can carry a quite reasonable capacity. The concert performance started exactly at 2:30 pm after all preparations were completely finalized. Piano soloist and Teide Ding, piccolo, trumpets were the only performance medium used, this was due to the concerts to be performed.

Paul Philips conducted the concert as he leads the Stanford Philharmonia chamber.

California bride was the first composition performed, its title builds the perception of romantic song hence drawing the attention of the audience closer, its mood created a feeling of love. All the dynamics of music were moderated, although, in my opinion, I felt that it was not well performed. The beats regulated the rhythm of the song, although at some point the speed of the beat could go higher.

Flute Concerto was the second composition presented. All musical elements involved were well moderated producing perfect dynamics. The tempo would go fast when the pitch went high, after the end of every stanza the tempo would gradually slow down, this created mood of happiness. The rhythm of the chorus made the lyrics enjoyable, the duration of how the sound lasts before another sound begins was very perfect. In my opinion, this was the composition that I felt was wonderfully performed. This can be testified by the reactions of both the performers and the audience.

After the performance of this composition, the hall was filled with cheers. By looking at the facial expressions of the performers you could notice that they were more active in presenting this song than the previous song. The last composition was Sea symphony, it had a relaxed mood. Its tempo was correctly varied depending on the pitch of the song, the tempo would gradually go down slowly then go up fast. The dynamics of the composition were mostly kept low and soft. Sea symphony took the shortest time of performance. The Bing Concert hall is designed in a circular manner that the performers sit at the center of the hall, while the audience seats are placed at the edge of the hall in a staircase manner such that they go round the hall. At the center where the Stanford philharmoniasat is designed also in a semicircular manner in a way that they face Paul Philips the coordinator in the front. The performers are grouped depending on the role they play, for example, those playing the guitar and the piano were standing at the back, followed by those playing drum set, then those with trumpets and those playing the violins at the front.

The performers playing the violins had some manuals written the songs they were presenting. Those playing the guitar and the piano were standing while the others were sited. The audience who were present sat on one side of the hall facing the performers, the concert hall was fully filled with seats so everybody was comfortably seated. The performers were in uniform clothing that’s made them look presentable, although the men were slightly in different sartorial from the women. The men were in a black suit with a white shirt and a black bow tie. Some women were in black trousers and black tops while others were in black skirts. Their shoes were all black, this made the band look beautiful, their conductor was also in the same clothing but he had no tie.

The audience had no specific clothing everyone wore clothes of best choice since were not performers they had come for entertainment there was no need for specific clothing. The audience is comprised of all ages and both genders. The audience was very peaceful and humble, there was no loitering around or making unnecessary noise in the hall. They were quiet following the concert, after every end of each concert they would stand to cheer up the presentation. In my opinion, I liked the flute concerto composition, this composition had nice musical elements. I liked the composition because it had nice pizzicato effects, especially when singing the chorus there was a harmony in combining the pitches making it sound consonant. The high melody together with the slow tempo of the flute concerto made me love it because the tune was organized in a sequential manner. The instruments played really sang the song as if it was vocally sung. In the performance, I loved the composition because the pace and accuracy of the piano soloist player was extremely unbelievable. The sound balance between the soloist and the violinist was quite faultless, also the ensemble of the instruments was balanced.

In my own opinion, I think that the California bride composition was least performed. The reason being the orchestration of the instruments was not balanced, at some point the dynamics would be so loud making the effects uninteresting. The melody highness of the melody was disjunction. The tone of the instruments at some point would get out of control, I think this was due to a different rhythm in the stanzas. Generally, I think the concert was quite good and enjoyable if Stanford Philharmonia will hold another concert I will attend, I will take my friends with me next time. I believe this is the best place for entertainment and leisure, I will recommend other people to attend the next concert and they will like it. I found it enjoyable especially when sited in the front seats u feel relaxed. I am not only saying I will attend Stanford concerts only but if another concert like this is held I will attend.
