35,858, feet, 248,655 miles. Compare these numbers closely. There is a tremendous difference. The first number is the distance a human made into space. The other number is the distance a human made into the deep sea. We have been focusing on outer space more than the ocean right next to us.

Everyone’s been so worried about finding a new planet but we should focus more on fixing the planets we live on rather fixing up planets to live on. I think we should fixate on underwater research more rather than space, because first, with underwater research we have had significant breakthroughs that affect us, second, the ocean affects us drastically and humans cannot survive without it, ultimately, we should focus more on underwater research because there are many traces of life that we have yet to discover.

The first reason we should focus more on underwater research rather than space is that underwater research has had breakthroughs in finding solutions to illness.

In the book Coral Reefs, Sylvia Earle states, ” Scientist study coral reef ecosystems to see if the organisms that live in them can be used to develop medicine to treat illness, such as Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis bacterial infections, cancer, and heart disease.’.” With this information,, you can clearly see why underwater research is critical to us.

To conclude, I think we should be more focused on sea exploration because we’ve had breakthroughs that have helped us, we can’t live without the sea so we need to protect it and finally, there are animals in the ocean we have yet to discover. Space may provide possible new homes but if we can fix the planet we are currently living on We shouldn’t just throw earth in the trash. When you really think about it space’s research purpose is to find a new planet, underwater’s is to fix our planet.
