Topics: HousePets

There are many types of good household pets. Even with good pets, there are also ones which are bad for household pets. People may think that taking care of a reptile is the easiest task to do, but they require a lot of attention and care. Even with good reptiles, there are also bad and dangerous reptiles to have as pets. Many people have reptiles but, they are very much different on how they require than a normal pet. There are six kinds of reptiles that are good house pets than other reptiles around the world.

The first two known reptiles that everyone loves to have is bearded dragons and water dragons. A bearded dragon is really cool and it is a great reptile type pet to have. A bearded dragon puffs up the pouch underneath the snout and the spikes to look scary like a dragon.

This makes other animals scared, but people would be really interested in this reptile.

“They are only found in Australia.” Chinese water dragons are another popular pet that every reptile lover could own. A Chinese water dragon are really friendly reptiles, but they will be agressive and hostile if they are not taken care of. If it is scared or threatened, it may bite or whip its tail for self defence. They are native to China and the mainland of Southeast Asia. Tortiouses are really friendly creatures and quite, but with other males they been known to attack each other leading to serious injuries. The reptiles are known to outlive the owners lifespan because they can live

up to 50 to 100 years old. There are over 270 types of turtles in this world right now. They are cute and with good training and research, can be really easy to take care of. With some species of turles they have been known to bite the owner and can cause serious damage or injury. The last two reptiles are the leopard gecko and anole. These reptiles are easy beginner pets for any reptile lover or any owner that wants a pet. If more than one is put together, their tail will start to wag and it will start to attack if threatened. Another interesting fact about the gecko is that when threatend or scared, it will self-amputate it’s tail as a defence mechanism. They live in the higlands of Asia and throughout Afghanistan, and parts of northern India. Anoles are another good beginner reptile pet for reptile lovers or pet owners. When it is being attack by a predator or anything, it will drop it’s tail as a defence mechanism. If the tail is grabbed by a child or pet owner, the tail will break and it won’t look the same like before.

The next topic that will be explained is the extra care that all six of the previous reptiles will need. The bearded dragon needs a special light emits UVA and UVB for heating that is really important for their survival. The temperature in the pen needs to be around 80 to 85 degrees Farenheit for the cooling side. The food the bearded dragon can is, crickets, waxworms, silkworms, butterworms, red worms, mealworms, vegetables, and fruits. The water dragon requires a pool of water that is deep enough for half the body to be submerged into. “The humidity should be kept at around 80 percent. (Mcleod, Lianne, DMV).”

The temperature needs to be at a range of 84 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit and backing spot of 90 degrees. They can be fed dragon crickets, mealworms, waxworms, earthworms, grasshoppers, butter worms, locusts, and possibly small feeder fish. The vegetables to feed the water dragon are, sweet potatos, parsnips, green beans, and carrots. The fruits to feed are, strawberries, raspberries, and mangoes. The tortious depending on the weather, needs to come indoors when its to cold outside or when its night time. The conditions must be right for the tortiouse. Making a pen outside is good for the tortiouse to live in and to have a heated home like a dog house as well. Thevegetables that the tortouse eats is, kale, dandelions, collard greens, bell pepper, sweet potato, and sqaush. There are so many turtles around the world and each type of species require more care than others. Most of the species that every turtle east for fod is, bugs with nutrients, earthworms, and small fish.

As keeping a turtle for a pet, they do require a little more equipment then a tortious. They require a big tank or medium size tank, they need a UVB light that emits the same light like the sun, and needs water to be able to swim. A leopard gecko is a easy reptile to take care of and doesn’t cost as much like a turtle or tortiouse. With leopard geckos being nocturnal from light, they only require a heating bulb and a heating emitter for night time. A small or medium size bowl is required for the gecko to drink and sometimes soak in it. They don’t eat any fruits or vegetables, but the types of insects that are the diet are, crickets and mealworms. To make anole housed good and make the enviroment perfect is that the temperature needs to be 75 to 80 F and the humidity needs to be 70 percent. Anoles don’t require any bowl for water, but the plants and pen needs to be misted so the Anole can get the water from the leaves. The insects they eat are, mealworms and wax worms, but they require a calcium and vitamin supplement dusted on them for better health than wild insects.

The next topic that will be explained is what reptiles should not be house pets. The crocodile monitors and alligators are the first dangerous animals that everyone knows and what they can do. Crocodile monitors are a dangerous type of reptile because they can secret venomous saliva to attack prey. They require a lot of care and need to be handle at a far range so the reptile doesn’t attack and cause an infection from its bite. They are dangerous, but they haven’t killed any humans in the process of being a housepet. They live on the island of New Guinea and nearby islands making them the top predators. A alligator is another reptile that is dangerous and can actually kill anything.

They have been known to kill humans and with the huge bit they have, they can do serious damge and can also cause infection as well. The changes in an alligator happens all the time and when it comes to mating season, they are really dangerous and will attack no matter what even if it really taken care of and trained. The next two dangerous reptiles are Boa constrictor and rattlesnake. They are danferous by when grabbing prey or humans, they start to squeeze the life out of its prey to eat. They have a powerful bite, which can really hurt and can be painful. A boa constrictor will attack a human if threatened, but it is rare for it to attack and kill the human. A saw-scaled viper is the most dangerous reptile to have as a house pet. They are very agressive and if startled will attack no matter what and will kill the human in seconds.

They are also known for more deaths on humans than any other reptiles on the earth. The last dangerous reptile is the komodo dragon. With their bad dental hygiene, they carry a lot of dangerous bacteria that when they bite a human, they cause a major infection that can possibly lead to death. They will even attack when really hungry or when it feels threatened and it will bite on sight. Well there are many reptile lovers, there are those who should not take care of reptiles. Reptile lovers who have kids should stay away from the reptile, because kids can carry disease that can get the reptile really sick and can possibly kill it. There have been cases where merchants or animal abusers will have the reptile suffer just to make a quick buck or have it die and never see it again.

Signs of abuse on the reptile are, there will be blood marks on the head and throughout the body, there will be a lot fo tail fragments on the ground of the pen or in the cage, and showing them reall fatigue and otherwise dead. In conclusion, by learning more and researching important facts and information one can see the importance of taking care of reptiles. It also explains how to take care of reptiles aorund the world and how it shows the importance of caring. With even explaining the importance of good reptiles, there are bad ones as well and what they can do to the owner and other animals. With all this research, a reptile does require a lot of care to survive and thrive.
