How Did I Interview a Female Student From India?

September 3th was the day when I came to Canada. I met with a lot of people in Fleming College Peterborough. Everything was new for me like a new country, new people, new places, and new thoughts. Most of the students were doing jobs, however some people were looking for a job especially new students. I am the kind of person who is always ready to listen to peoples stories. I like to know the people’s experiences in his life because every person has a different story.

It can be a story of life, experience, success, failure, love, trust and many more and I am always ready to listen because I think every person is different and has a different experience and I always think that experience always teaches us about different things. On October 15th, I interviewed a girl and she is the Fleming college student. Her name was Sanjana Mandal. She was working as a volunteer at Fleming College.

She was looking confident and was a fit girl. She gave all the answers with a smile. She is an optimistic personality. She was in informal clothes.

I asked her a few basic questions regarding her course and reason to come to Canada for higher studies. She is doing mental health and addiction worker 2-year diploma program. I asked her what the chief reason she came to Canada she told me that she did her graduation in Anesthesia and operation theatre techniques from the postgraduate institute of medical and research.

This is a well-reputed hospital in India but she wanted to pursue her future education so, she planned to study abroad to enhance her knowledge and skills and to have better carrier options in the future. I asked her about the reason to choose the Fleming College and her program. She gave me this answer. One of my cousins is already in Canada and he is doing a job in Toronto and he suggested me to choose Fleming College. My next question was about her program, like why chose this specific program. She told me that when she was doing graduation she has to interact With a patient having a mental health and addiction problem.

They require more dosage of drugs and still they are not comfortable in the preoperative period. She told me that after completing her program and gain some practical experience in the same filed, she would like to head back to India to work in the de-addiction center, hospitals, mental health clinician as well as NGOs. She told me that the study in this diploma will enable me many options to work as a counselor, case manager, relief staff. There are numerous de-addiction centers across India especially in Punjab where drug addiction is a major problem among youth and there is a huge need for counselors and care staff to help youth stay on the right track. I have been family breaking apart and parents suffering equally due to the problem.

Upon asking how do you feel about your program now? She says being in the second year of this program now. I found this program is very interesting. I have been able to achieve it through the various practices, lectures, seminars in this course. I love to work with my clients. I was curious to know she is doing a job or how she is mange her time-table.

Then she told me that she is doing a job in Tim Horton’s. Mostly she gets work chances from 5 pm to 11 pm. She takes classes from 8 am to 2 pm and gets ample time between classes to handle the research and job schedule. She told me she is living with her husband. He has been on a spouse visa to Canada. He said her husband was very cooperative with everyone he has good bonding with his colleagues and family relatives. He is very good in cooking he always cooked for both of them after that I asked her where she would like to work. She told me that she has not decided yet.

Once I have finished my research. I want to work at the health center. I was able to interview her as she shared the analysis with her experience. Arrival in a new place, country, and plans for her work. it’s good to see people drawing up plans and working hard to execute them. I was inspired by her dedication to study, work and goal and taught me that even if we’re going through difficult situations.
