World-Class Leaders in Sports Essay
This paper explores some of the world’s best leaders in sports; college basketball coaches John Calipari and Mike Krzyzewski and how these coaches are both similar and different in their coaching styles. Each one of them uses the four concepts of transformational leadership to be the best coach they can be. Coach Calipari, head Men’s Basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, tends to look at things more as a team, and how each one of his players can improve to make the team improve. For very little of the time practicing does he let his players work on their own thing. Coach Krzyzewski, Head Men’s basketball coach at Duke University, is much like Coach Cal. He focuses on each, knowing that if each one of them gets better, then the team will improve. He is different from Coach Calipari because to get the family atmosphere in the team, he forms much closer relationships with his players, which gives the team more of a family atmosphere. He tends to have recruits with less ego. Therefore he has his players around much longer than Coach Cal, which is why he can do this. This essay examines these coaching styles by using multiple different articles in order to better understand transformational leadership and how these coaches use it to lead their players .
