The following sample essay on Sensei Murakami’s Novel ”Norwegian Forest” tells the story of one of Murakami’s most controversial novels.

Are you going to read the same as the rest – you start to think like everyone else. (C)

Perhaps the novel “Norwegian Wood” Sensei Murakami is one of the most controversial in terms of readers’ opinions. Some say that this is one of the best works of the maestro, while others, on the contrary, attributed this work to the number of mediocre works.

I can say that my opinion of this book is far from the objective, for Haruki Murakami – one of the most impressed me the authors. But move closer to the product.

«The man who says that he is an ordinary, can not be trusted.” (C)

If you analyze the book on the merits, it is possible to say that the story of its content is very, very simple. There are clearly defined protagonist, there is inherent in the Land of the Rising Sun, the tragedy of suicide, there is also a romantic line, coupled with the intimate moments.

In general, a “full ground meat”. Rather than into the details of the plot, that it is dominated by two aspects – this is clearly expressed suicidal tendencies of some characters. And many, not without a lot of collapsible and gratuitous sexual encounters. By the middle of the work, for me, I did not leave the idea that now someone has sex once with someone or die. There is no third.

But it’s all superficial. If you change the viewing angle of this novel, readers, if desired, cannot necessarily understand, but at least to consider the image of people with eastern mental. Their way of life, way of thinking, motivation of those or other actions. Although Murakami belongs to the Europeanized writers, his works are full of oriental mind. And that’s priceless. He prescribes a fine detail, and they give the product of some Japanese atmospherics. And, if you focus on these little things, this book starts to play completely different colors. Inactive and inert characters as they seem at first glance, the new approach, are very wise and sincere. And the story itself takes on a new sense of depth.

This book is written in the best, I would say, Murakami traditional style. And, if they assess it, I would put a solid “4” on a 5-point scale. All those who are not familiar with this work, I wish a pleasant reading!
