Nowadays, rap music is popular and favored by millions of young people. Many singers try to combine their music with rap, and many radio frequencies play those mixed songs in their channels to lure more audiences. In the past, rap music used to be known as a genre only played by black people who lived at the bottom of society. They used this type of music to express their thoughts and wishes in order to gain more rights in society. Not many white singers had the courage to get engaged in this genre.

All of those pictures are now portrayed in the movie 8 Mile. The movie is based on a true story of Eminem’s life, a famous rapper nowadays, who has overcome many obstacles in his life to become a famous, well-known celebrity.

In the movie 8 Mile, Eminem plays the role of Jimmy Smith who was born in Detroit (a city in Michigan). Jimmy never has a chance to see his father when his mother gives birth to him.

He grows up without a father and a mother who is an alcoholic. His young sister is the one that Jimmy loves the most in his family. They live in a mobile house, but they still can’t afford the rent every month. However, Jimmy is an ambitious man. He wants to become a singer in rap genre which is dominated by African Americans. He realizes that he has the skills in this genre that other people don’t have. He starts to practice with his friends; his uncle-a DJ who plays for night clubs -realizes the talent that Jimmy possesses, and he wants to help Jimmy become famous by giving the boy many chances at his stage.
