However frequent physical aggression may mean that a child is having serious emotional or behavioral problems that need to be addressed.  Children look up to their parents as model, adults’ response to a circumstance affects the emotion of the child. The emotional and social development of the child is greatly dependent on the emotional well-being of his parents.

Stages of development presented in time frames are average and normal. Children may undergo delay and advance development than the average but it is still common and acceptable. Social development occurs since birth to five years of age. Early development is more critical than the later development such as adolescence and adulthood. Parents must become responsible to their actions and guide their children accordingly. This requires parental evaluation and intervention to prevent negative character formation. There are many factors that influence a child to behave in unusual manner.

Culture and environment influences every aspect of human development. The culture of the family helps to determine the developmental characteristics of its children. Culture sets the rules for discipline, expectations for developmental achievements, how illness is treated, and how disability is perceived (Social-Emotional Development in Young Children 5). The identity of the child is shaped by their interactions with the people important in their lives. Biting and hitting take place between one and three years of age. These undesirable behaviors can be a way for a child to test his power or to get attention. Children who experience physical and emotional deprivation tend to show insecurities and inadequacies outside.

A language-rich environment including opportunities for good reading, singing, listening and talking should enhance in order to communicate and socialize effectively. Language development occurs during 2 to 4 years of age; train your child to utilize reading materials. This may inculcate interest on lifelong learning and develop his communication skills. The way of life of the family that includes economic and social status affects development of the child. If the family is not economically stable, there is a possibility for the parents to fight and produce negative home environment. A child might do the same as their parents. Huston, Watkins, & Kunkel said that it is the responsibility of adults and of government’s public policy to protect children from harmful exposure to violence through the media and to protect children from television content and advertising that exploit their special vulnerability (cited in Media and Violence in Children’s Lives, 1994). To prevent children to perform violent acts, parents must guide their children’s viewing habits. Parents should emphasize to their children the importance of education into the life of one person. Research demonstrates that television viewing is a highly complex, cognitive activity, during which children are actively involved in learning. Parents must encourage and assist the child to interpret educational shows to make it an interactive experience. The parents talk between themselves about what is essential to them, tell their children about these values and make sure that the whole family discusses the values so that everyone understands them. Regulate the use of media for educational purposes because this may cause your child to become dependent on it, instead encourage and expose them to use books or other reading and writing materials. In addition, reading high-quality literature helps children to understand and manage life’s daily challenges and to prepare them for different life experiences.

In the process of socialization, the child joins and participates in social groups. Each child will expose in different values, if the parents failed to guide them they may absorb values of other individual. Shown in Social attachment with parents, peers and making friends makes one child engage in the process of socialization. Social attachment starts during infancy this is evident when infants respond to the familiar voice, recognize important people in their lives through their sense of smell and touch.

Today’s children need tangible support as they face a range of challenges that extend far beyond the cognitive domain. Young children encounter many relatively small stressors in the midst of daily events. The discovery of a favorite toy broken beyond repair, a playmate refusing to share, or incidents involving sibling rivalry are typical events that can cause stress in the social-emotional worlds of young learners (Roberts&Crawford 1).

Play influences the improvement of language, social relationship, personal consciousness, emotional well-being, creativity, and learning capability. Help your child develop self-esteem and show the value and independence. Follow your child’s development, they will appreciate that their own thoughts and ideas are respected and he is important to you. Help them to independently realize their own mistakes and indicate their strengths and weaknesses. Build your relationship with your child with full of love and care to support healthy social development. Play environments that offer toys and other play materials that encourage exploration and are developmentally appropriate for the young child.

Children According to Erik Erikson’s third psychosocial crisis, the child learns to broaden his skills through active play. In this stage the child also becomes cooperative and develops his sense of leadership. Parents expect children to become more responsible to take care of their self and their belongings. This psychosocial crisis needs resolution of the child with the assistance of parents. Supervise their actions not to dictate whatever you want your child to do. Teach the child the value of temperament because this will organize your child’s approach to other people and environment.

Although home environment greatly influences the child’s behavior, school also contributes in the formation of behavior and personality of the child. A school is the place where children also spend hours learning and exploring things. Parents and teacher may work together to give appropriate and meaningful experiences for the children. Parents don’t monitor their child inside the classroom so the best way is to cooperate with the teacher. The relationship of the child to his family and the way parents rear their children reflected through child’s behavior. The teacher should understand the family background of the child. Know if the family is nuclear, extended, single-parent families, migrant, homeless, or if the parents are divorced. Children develop types of coping skills through a positive classroom environment, the consistent modeling of pro-social skills, and secure relationships with caring adults. (Roberts: Crawford 2). As educators, there is a strong feeling that it is their responsibility to help the child develop skills necessary for their students to become productive and better individual in the future. This will attain by supporting physical, emotional-social development that create their personality.

Guidance is the most effective way to prevent children from harming others and performing undesirable behaviors. During early childhood, the child is curious about the things around him. Guiding your children in every little ways will help them distinguish what is right and wrong. According to Jean Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, the child is unable to distinguish their own perspective from what is appropriate or not. In this situation, parents must intervene for them to realize and understand their own actions. Parents should help their child in his effort to achieve up to the level of his own capacity to become better individual.

The goal of development is self-realization of the individual’s potentials. Today’s children face challenges on every aspect of one person not only the cognitive domain. Give them the chance to manage themselves and discover their strengths and weaknesses. It places confidence for him to deal with situations essential to his own existence. Development is only be attained by maturation and learning. How the child learn may be more important than what they learn. Let your child explore and become creative on their own to develop the sense of responsibility and self-discipline.
