Plot
The order of events in a story. The plot of the story is made up of the problem, important events and the resolution.
Exposition
The exposition (introduction) happens in the beginning of a story; this is where the reader is introduced to the characters (who is in the story) and the setting (where & when does the story take place)
Rising Action
The part of the story that develops the conflict, or problem, through a series of exciting events. All the events in the rising action lead up to the climax of the story.
Climax
The turning point during the middle of the story where the problem (conflict) reaches its most gripping time. The most exciting part of the story!
Falling Action
Follows the climax and shows the effects of the conflict; the aftermath
Resolution
The conclusion to the story that reveals the solution to the problem or conflict. The End!
Theme
The message the story wants readers to know; the lesson learned from reading the story.
The Main Character
The protagonist; the most important character; grows and changes during the story (round character)
Minor Character
Character who is not as important as main character; this character does not change or grow during story (flat).
Antagonist
A character or thing in a story who has a conflict (problem) with a main character. The antagonist is usually a villain.
Point-of-View
POV: The view that a narrator tells a story from.
Third-Person POV
When a voice outside the story is the narrator who tells the story.
