One drug that used more than most for not only athletes but for those that need to feel a pick me up in the middle of the day. This drug is can be traced back thousands of years as a stimulant before they knew even what it was. Today, this drug is used in a variety of settings both for medical and recreational uses. However, this drug is taken by most people recreationally and don’t even know it. This can be a concern for those that have a sensitivity to this drug. The drug that almost most citizens throughout the world will have taken in their lifetime and not even realize it, is caffeine. For some this is an essential part of their everyday life or the feel a crashing effect come over them.
Caffeine is a psychoactive drug enjoyed by many people every day around the world and some people love the feeling they get from it, while others regard caffeine as a drug that manipulates the mind and readiness of its prey. However, many fail to understand the way that it works or don’t even know its origins. The most notable discover would be a German scientist Friedlieb Runge in 1819 that was able to not only isolate but also synthesis caffeine from its various products that it is found in, “Pure caffeine” (Caffeine, 2016). The form would be a crystal looking substance similar to that of sand. Pure caffeine is a form of methylxanthine alkaloid that has a bitter taste, and the crystal looking of pure caffeine was a purine that is a white purine. However, caffeine can be traced back even further, up to thousands of years further however the records can’t be verified accurate.
Caffeine can be found naturally in nearly sixty (60) different plant species that contain barks, leaves, and seeds (Graham, 2000). Hannah Nichols (Nichols, 2016) says that some of these include: coffee beans, Tea leaves, Kola nuts, Cacao Beans, Guarana, Yerba Mate, and Yoco (a bark) to name a few were caffeine can be found in plants.
