In 2008 the American economy experienced its worst financial recession since the Great Depression in 1930. The sub-prime mortgage crisis wiped out huge amounts of equity from the stock market over a mere few days, contributed to the loss of nine million jobs, and required the Federal Reserve to bail out numerous corporate banks.

There was nationwide outrage as the general public felt the financial struggles of Wall Street were being prioritized over consumer demands on Main Street. Obama’s first task would be to implement economic policy in order to catalyze the repair of American jobs. He did so by signing two key pieces of legislation titled The Recovery Act of 2009 and The 2010 Tax Relief Act. Collectively both Acts of Congress are credited for ending the Great Recession in July 2009 and boosting the American economy to pre-crisis levels. This was achieved in a variety of methods all of which ultimately resulted in an injection of eight hundred billion dollars into the consumer market to instil confidence and increase purchasing power. Consequently increased consumer spending boosted profits of small businesses and larger corporations allowing them to hire more employees thus reducing the unemployment rate. Individual families seemed to benefit greatly through tax credits, tax cuts, and unemployment benefits; withholding tax decreased by eight hundred dollars for families and four hundred dollars for individuals. College students greatly benefited from a two thousand five hundred dollar tuition tax credit and first time homebuyers were granted an incredible eight thousand dollar tax credit to assist with mortgage payments.

A recurring theme of Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign was the substandard state of America’s infrastructure, transportation highways, and hospitals. The Recovery Act funnelled a collective seventy billion dollars to instigate jobs and improve numerous freeways, medical facilities, and airports. It is no secret that the Obama administration implemented major environmental policy initiatives to counteract the disastrous effects of global warming, illegal deforestation activities, and water pollution; the 2010 Tax Relief Act generated seventeen billion dollars in renewable energy tax cuts to promote solar energy and green alternatives in American households. Educational institutions from kindergarten to twelfth and higher educational institutions benefited from a collective one hundred billion dollar investment stimulus focused around technological teaching advancements, facility modernization, and Pell Grants. A recent study published in the peer reviewed journal…. The general American demographic by the middle of Obama’s initial campaign was frustrated with high health premiums and unaffordable medical service – including emergency treatment.

In March 2010 Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, more popularly recognized as Obamacare, into law with the main premise of creating a more universal health care system to benefit all Americans regardless of socio-economics status, income, and pre-existing conditional bias. In 2011 provisions under Obamacare helped approximately eighty six million people access free preventive services like annual wellness exams, cancer screenings, and flu shots. Furthermore, ambulatory care covers treatments that you receive without being admitted to the hospital giving rise to a diverse array of outpatient services; emergency services includes care or treatment that you undertake in an emergency scenario regardless of whether you are hospitalized and insurers are mandated to cover prescriptions, including one-time drugs and chronic medications. Modern day medicine has given mental health issues increasing priority with the cognitive state of a patient viewed as a crucial component of comprehensive wellbeing. Therefore, under the Affordable Care Act mental health care is inclusive of behavioral health treatments, substance abuse treatments, counseling and other related services relating to chronic neurodegenerative disorders. Obama administrative officials advocated the improvement of numerous maternity services to include treatment before, during, and after birth.
