2.BOOTSTRAPBootstrap is a free and open-source front-end web framework for designing websites and web applications. It contains HTML- and CSS-based design templates for typography, forms, buttons, navigation and other interface components, as well as optional JavaScript extensions. Unlike many web frameworks, it concerns itself with front-end development only.

The bootstrap is divided into sections such as bootstrap basics, bootstrap CSS, bootstrap layout components & bootstrap plugins.

Why Use Bootstrap?

Browser Support: It is supported by all browsers such as Opera, Chrome, Firefox, etc.

Easy to get started: By the knowledge of HTML & CSS anyone can get started with Bootstrap.

Responsive Designs: Bootstrap responsive CSS adjust to desktop, tablets & mobiles. It provides a clean & uniform solution for building an interface for developers. It is easy to customize. It is open source.

Features-

Bootstrap 3 supports the latest versions of the Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari (except on Windows). It additionally supports back to IE8 and the latest Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR).

Since 2.0, Bootstrap supports responsive web design. This means the layout of web pages adjusts dynamically, taking into account the characteristics of the device used (desktop, tablet, mobile phone).

Starting with version 3.0, Bootstrap adopted a mobile-first design philosophy, emphasizing responsive design by default.

The version 4.0 alpha release added Sass and flexbox support

Structure And Function-

Bootstrap is modular and consists of a series of Lessstylesheets that implement the various components of the toolkit. These stylesheets are generally compiled into a bundle and included in web pages, but individual components can be included or removed. Bootstrap provides a number of configuration variables that control things such as color and padding of various components.

StylesheetsBootstrap provides a set of stylesheets that provide basic style definitions for all key HTML components. These provide a uniform, modern appearance for formatting text, tables and form elements.

Re-Usable Components

In addition to the regular HTML elements, Bootstrap contains other commonly used interface elements. The components are implemented as CSS classes, which must be applied to certain HTML elements in a page.

Javascript Components

Bootstrap comes with several JavaScript components in the form of HYPERLINK ” o “JQuery”jQuery plugins. They provide additional user interface elements such as dialog boxes, tooltips, and carousels. They also extend the functionality of some existing interface elements, including for example an auto-complete function for input fields. In version 2.0, the following JavaScript plugins are supported: Modal, Dropdown, Scrollspy, Tab, Tooltip, Popover, Alert, Button, Collapse, Carousel and Typeahead.

3.CSSCSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).CSS is defines how HTML elements are to be displayed.Styles were added to HTML 4.0 to solve a problem CSS saves a lot of work.External stylesheets are stored in CSS files. CSS is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language. Now a days web pages and user interfaces written in HTML and XHTML, the language can be applied to any XML document, including plain XML, SVG and XUL, and is applicable to rendering in speech, or on other media. Along with HTML and JavaScript, CSS is a cornerstone technology used by most websites to create visually engaging webpages, user interfaces for web applications, and user interfaces for many mobile applications.

CSS is designed primarily to enable the separation of presentation and content, including aspects such as the layout, colors, and fonts. This separation can improve content accessibility, provide more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics, enable multiple HTML pages to share formatting by specifying the relevant CSS in a separate .css file, and reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content.

Three Ways To Insert CSS

There are three ways of inserting a style sheet as:

1.External style sheet.

2.Internal style sheet.

3.Inline style sheet.

1.External Style Sheet.

With an external style sheet we can change the look of an entire website by changing just one file.

Each page must include reference to the external style sheet file.

An external style sheet can be written in any text editor. The file should not contain any HTML tags.

The style sheet file must be saved with a .css extension.

2.Imternal Style Sheet

An internal style sheet may be used if one single page has a unique style.

Internal styles are defined within the <style> element inside the head section of an HTML page.

3.Inline Style Sheet

An inline style may be used to apply a unique style for a single element.

An inline style loses many of the advantages of a style sheet.

To use inline styles, add the style attribute to the relevant type. The style attribute can contain any CSS property.

CSS Backgrounds

CSS background properties are used to define the background effects of an elements.

CSS properties used for background effects:

background -color: This property specifies the background color of an element.

background – image: This property specifies an image to use as the background of an element.

background – repeat: This property repeats an image both horizontally & vertically.

background – attachment: This property attach the element.

background – position: This property specifies the position of an element.

Color sets the color of text.

Direction specifies the text direction or writing direction.

Letter spacing increases or decreases the space between characters in a text.

Text align specifies the horizontal alignment of text.

Text decoration specifies the decoration added to text.

Text shadow specifies the shadow effect added to text.

Text transform controls the capitalization of text.

Vertical align sets the vertical alignment of an element.

Whitespace specifies how whitespace inside an element is handle.

Word spacing increase or decreases the space between word & text.

Properties of CSS Font

Font sets all the font properties in one declaration.

Font family specifies the font family for the text.

Font size specifies the font size of the text.

Font style specifies the font style for the text.

Font variant specifies whether or not a text should be displayed in a small caps font.

Font weight specifies the weight of a font.

CSS Tables

1.Collapse Border: This property sets whether the table borders are collapsed into a single border or seprated.

2.Table width & Height: Width & height of a table is defined by the width & height properties.

3.Horizontal Text Alignment: This property sets the horizontal alignment like left, right and center. By default <th> elements are center aligned. <td> elements are left aligned.

4.Vertical Text Alignment: This property sets the vertical alignment like top, bottom and middle . By default the vertical alignment of text in a table is middle.

5.Table Padding: To control the space between the border & content in a table, use the padding property on <td> & <th> elements.

6.Table Color: This specifies the color of the border & text & background color.

History-

CSS was first proposed by H?konWium Lie on October 10, 1994.At the time, Lie was working with Tim Berners-Lee at CERN. Several other style sheet languages for the web were proposed around the same time, and discussions on public mailing lists and inside World Wide Web Consortium resulted in the first W3C CSS Recommendation (CSS1)being released in 1996. In particular, Bert Bos’ proposal was influential; he became co-author of CSS1 and is regarded as co-creator of CSS.

Advantages-

1.Separation of content from presentation

CSS facilitates publication of content in multiple presentation formats based on nominal parameters. Nominal parameters include explicit user preferences, different web browsers, the type of device being used to view the content (a desktop computer or mobile Internet device), the geographic location of the user and many other variables.

2.Site-wide consistency

When CSS is used effectively, in terms of inheritance and “cascading”, a global style sheet can be used to affect and style elements site-wide. If the situation arises that the styling of the elements should be changed or adjusted, these changes can be made by editing rules in the global style sheet. Before CSS, this sort of maintenance was more difficult, expensive and time-consuming.

3.BandwidthA stylesheet, internal or external, specifies the style once for a range of HTML elements selected by class, type or relationship to others. This is much more efficient than repeating style information inline for each occurrence of the element. An external stylesheet is usually stored in the browser cache, and can therefore be used on multiple pages without being reloaded, further reducing data transfer over a network.

4.Page reformatting

With a simple change of one line, a different style sheet can be used for the same page. This has advantages for accessibility, as well as providing the ability to tailor a page or site to different target devices. Furthermore, devices not able to understand the styling still display the content.

5.AccessibilityWithout CSS, web designers must typically lay out their pages with techniques such as HTML tables that hinder accessibility for vision-impaired users.
