The Flintstones The Flintstones produced by Hannah Barbera and shot in california for ABC was released on September 30, 1960. The Flintstones was a major point in animation because it was the first primetime animated TV show . The Flintstones was very popular and financially successful and also being the longest-running animated television show for around 3 decades. One Hundred and One Dalmatians The 1961 One Hundred and One Dalmatians (based on the 1956 novel “One Hundred and One Dalmations” by Dodie smith) and produced by Walt Disney was another big moment in animation history again by yet again the famous Disney. It was Disney’s 17th animated feature film and was important due to the fact that it was the first full length animated film using xerography.

Xerography is a photocopying and printing technique that works by using electrostatic electricity and was invented in the late 1930’s by a lawyer named chester carlson. Westworld 1973 was the first film to have 2d cgi in it. CGI or computer-generated imagery is any image or images that have been made with the help of computers. CGI is mostly used in films to generate realistic-looking images of animated objects, mainly referred to as special effects or vfx. Tron Tron, Disney’s original classic movie in 1982 was the first movie to have good, solid CGI (computer-generated imagery) and was known for its surreal graphics for its time. This movie wouldn’t have been possible without the talented computer engineer genius kevin Flynn.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit In 1988 an american mystery comedy movie which Disney had bought the rights of it back in 1981 and directed by Robert Zemeckis entered theaters on june 22th and became a blockbuster hit! It even won Best Film Editing, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Visual Effects academy awards. This film was a huge milestone in animation and vfx work since it was the first time a film ever put cartoon animation characters into a live-action film. This was a big step which led to many more animated/live-action films and more advanced vfx work in movies.

Toy Story Pixar soon after Jurassic Park came out with the Film in 1995 hitting theaters in november 22nd that was the first to be an entirely computer generated full length film. It altered the way animation films were made and was a real breakthrough in 3d animation. It also said a statement saying that animated movies don’t have to be a musical. This wasn’t pixar’s first computer generated film, before pixar made toy story they released a short film slightly related to toy story called Tin Toy which did well and won an academy award for “Best Animated Short Film”. Toy Story was a universal success and even has a rare 100 percent certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Also it grossed around 365 million worldwide and was the 3rd highest grossing film animated film during that time.

Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers The Lord of The Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson is remarkable for plenty of reasons but the second movie from the franchise was known for itsRevolutionary cgi work and motion capture. Gollum (a fictional character from Lord of The Rings) was the main focal point because it showed how the world what cgi and motion capture animation can really achieve. The fact that a fully animated cgi character can be next to actors in a movie and look believably realistic.

Avatar Another huge milestone in animation history is definitely Avatar directed by james cameron. Just like The Lord of The Rings, Avatar raised the ceiling of the power of cgi and motion capture animation even higher and blew people away with its beautiful visuals with people and stunning environment all in cgi. It did so well it won Best Art Director, Best cinematography and Best Visual Effects, and was nominated for 9 other Oscar awards, also to this day it remains the highest grossing movie of all time. Animation has come along way and has gone through many phases during its time such as the enchanted drawings to silhouette animation, silent animation era, 2d animation, 3d animation, etc to where we are today, there are many years of great animation to come!
