AUTOMATIC WIRELESS HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM.

1. BACKGROUND

An automatic wireless health monitoring system is an extension of a hospital medical system where a patient’s vital body state can be monitored remotely. Traditionally, different hospitals used large and very complex detection systems which consumed much power. Nevertheless, nowadays simple programmable systems are preferred in monitoring process of the patients’ body state. They are used because of their affordable cost, their low power consumption and extremely small size. Health experts are also taking advantage of these smart devices to keep an eye on their patients. Due to the problems of insufficient health specialists (in Rwanda) Not every time the doctor/health specialist is with the patient however patient’s body state can suddenly change and the doctor needs to know the changes. This comprises Electrocardiogram commonly referred to as ECG or EKG (heartbeat detection, temperature detection, blood pressure and respiration rate). Meanwhile doctor can easily get basic information of the patient remotely. ) this project is intended to reduce number of patients killed by heartbeat and temperature related problems and display their conditions to monitoring room. Automatic wireless health monitoring system would be used for the elderly and chronically ill patients. [1]

The average count of heart beat for a normal person ranges from 140 to 170 beats/minute, whereas in 60 years old people, it ranges from 115 to 140 beats /minute. [1]

In this project we will only deal with the heartbeat and temperature of the patient that is before or/and after introducing a drug. In developing countries, just after retiring from their daily career routine of the elderly age group, move to the rural areas. In developed countries they may move to assisted living group homes. This is where a remote health monitoring system can come in handy. [3]

2. OBJECTIVES

The general objective of this project is to design a system that can monitor and provide physiological information (temperature of patient’s body and the heartbeat) remotely: “Automatic Wireless Health Monitoring System.”

3. Specific objectives

The specific objectives to achieve general objectives are: design, coding and simulation.

4. SCOPE

Due to the time frame and financial means we will simulate an Automatic Wireless Health Monitoring System.

4. METHODOLOGY

In order to achieve our objectives we will use the following tools: ARDUINO, which will be there as a controller, WIFI modules will act as a bridge to the remote user, Heartbeat sensor is used for measuring the heartbeat, this sensor is necessary to monitor the heart conditions., Max232 is a voltage level convertor.

Temperature sensor gives the digital outputs, which indicates the temperature on the device. Relay, transistors and resistors are all to be used in the circuit. And after collecting data of any patient, WIFI Module will send main controller which will display and save information. [4]

Here are technics and methods to be used to make this project complete and working well.

Documentation: To identify all the information and requirement such as hardware and software, we planned about the projects resources and requirements, literature studies and schedule to get more information in this study. All the materials are collected from journal, texts book and research papers gathered from libraries and Internet.

Design: designing the schematic circuit of the project in a software (proteus IDE).

Coding and simulation: we will use Arduino IDE to write codes for our system and simulate to see the output/results.

Analysis is based on the performance of the circuit related where the output must be performed well and successful.

6. EXPECTED RESULTS

After the implementation of this project, we expect:

Multi parameter monitoring system: This has multiple parameters being monitored at the same time

Real-time, long-term, remote monitoring

a system that can monitor and provide physiological information remotely
