Education and educators continue to teach and reach the students in the k-12 system. They continue to face many challenges. Yet their main goal is to provide their students with the best education as possible. Technology is changing the way teachers teach their class. Educators themselves must continue to expand their knowledge. They must renew their license and figure out the right discipline for their class every year. Every grade level differs. Small kids learn differently than a High School students.

Elementary and Primary students are very punctilious. Educators must find ways to discipline and get their attention. However, is important for educators to be conscious of their action and words (Ordu).

In other words, educators are role model for their students. Similar like playing “Simon Says. Kids tend to follow the educator’s actions. Teachers compensated this by teaching kids’ proper behavior by role modeling the right behavior and procedures in their classroom. Furthermore, finding the effective classroom instruction can be a challenge to educators and schools.

Schools and educators are usually in tight schedules. Snow days, raining days, or other interruptions get in the way of a teacher’s lesson plan. However, educators must be able to find ways to help their students. One way is time on task. Time on Task is spending more time on a specific topic or subject than usual. The main purpose for this is for students to fully understand the subject. Although, taking more time than usual, will have its disadvantages.

Disadvantages consist of having to speed up future lessons or taking a lesson out.

Educators are responsible for staying up to date on the school’s calendar and revise their lesson plan effectively. Other effectiveness is keeping a steady pace, the rate a teacher proceeds (Mastropieri). Educators know the impact technology has on education. Although, the future of technology in education is unclear. Schools and Educators have reacted properly to the change technology has brought. Technology changed the way students have been taught in the past. This impacted teacher because now they must familiarize with new technology. In classes almost every teacher has computers available for their students. Their classroom consists of Chrome books, I Pads, and projectors.

Distance Education is online teaching. Online classes became available for educators and students. More than 5. 6 million university students enrolled in at least one online course in 2009 (“Distance Learning”). The number of online classes are increasing. High School students are now able to have College level classes due to this. There are benefits of online learning. It provides students to work on their own pace. However, it can be a challenge to educators. Is distance learning helping students fully understand the material? During the Coronavirus pandemic teachers have been forced to do distance education. AMI packets have been beneficial, but educators decided Zoom classes or other forms of online education would be better. Distance Education can be easier for some. However, for others, there are many challenges of having an online class. This is because one must become familiar with the different software.

For an elementary or Primary student, it might be difficult because they are not familiar with technology. There is software that requires setting up to attend an online class. Finding the right discipline for each student is the major concern of various educators. Teacher have acted by finding the right discipline approach for their students. One approach is authoritative approach. It a style of discipline that is not too harsh but still sets clear procedures. Why is developing self-discipline important? It is important because the aim of the United State Education is to develop responsible citizens with good conduct (Bear). Good behavior benefits classroom because learning runs more smoothly. Self-discipline promotes positive relations with others, reduces classroom problems, and foster academic achievement (Bear).

Schools and Educators work together to promote self-discipline by providing programs available for students. Programs teach students different social skills and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, educators use discipline to correct misbehavior. Today schools don’t have harsh punishment. In the past hitting a student with a wooden paddle was more common. However, “approximately thirty states now ban the use of corporal punishment” (Bear). Schools now have the right to expel or suspend a child from school. Hidden curriculum is attitude and behavior learned in school. For instance, raising one’s hand before speaking or not helping others. Hidden Curriculum behavior are usually what society believes students should act. However, it causes discrimination in schools. This causes problems for teachers because an educator responsibility is to teach values and norms rather than just concentrate on main subjects.

For teachers to teach and reach students in the k-12 system, educators must teach subjects they can relate to. In hidden curriculum, students are not allowed to help each other. Student are taught to look after themselves only. However, this doesn’t benefit an educator or the student. Later, in their life they will be obligated to work in teams. Working in teams prepare kids for their future jobs. It allows them to have proper team working skills. Good communication between a student and an educator is important because it can be beneficial for a student. Hearing feedback is a one-way teachers interact with their students. In High School a sports coach communicates with their student through practices. Motivating them each day to promote good teamwork. It wouldn’t be good for a coach to be have its team members distracted and doing their own thing.

For a goal to be made in Soccer each team member must work together in a team. A Primary or Elementary teacher have reached out to their students by compensating good behavior. They have used methods of rewards. They reward giving students treats or by using other reward options. During the Coronavirus rewarding a student is challenging. Learning online is different than in the classroom. In a Classroom there are procedures and rules. Parents are now responsible for teaching their kids. They take on the role of an educator. A teacher creates their lesson plan according to the state’s standards. Lesson plan must have availability of different activities. Each student learns differently. Some students are visual learners while other kinesthetic, or linguistic.

Linguistic learning style is when kids learn best by using words. Students who are linguistic learners can sit and hear a lesson. However, Kinesthetic learners learn best by hand-on activities. Building models or creating projects are more beneficial to them. For instance, when teaching a student, the solar system, it would beneficial to have them build their own solar system and be creative. On the other hand, visual learners need to see an image or various examples. Every year new standards are introduced. Educators face the challenge of finding effective ways to teach and reach student in the k-12 system. During pandemics, educators are faced with an even worse challenge. However, their main goal is to provide their students with the best education as possible. Teachers renew their license to be updated and up to current with the changed in education.
