Fire Safety Seems to Be a Reasonable Safety Factor

People around the world tend to disregard how important these precautions are and the danger of fires in residence halls due to them not being very common. Rules are set for a reason and as much as we like to break them they are there for our safety and prevent anything tragic from happening from one stupid mistake. Along with the fire safety rule the rule about noise policy is just as important. The actions we make affect everyone around us and choosing to be loud or cause fires or the fire alarm affects surrounding residence in a negative way.

They may be studying for a big exam that will determine whether they pass the class or determine their letter grade in the class. The disruption of a fire alarm and or falsely pulled fire alarm may be the distraction that affects their learning of the material.

Fire safety laws in residence halls are extremely important to the well-being of students and should not be taken lightly.

These factors are the reason residence halls have such a strict policy with fire related objects. Students use of basic electronics, cooking utensils, microwaves, smoking products, candles or incense are all different products that can cause fires in dorms. Dorm fires can lead to serious injuries or possible death. When discussing residence hall fires; one must look at how these fires begin, how they are prevented, and how to reduce damage to humans or property. Students rooms are full of items that would fuel the fire.

Also, recent studies show that cooking, smoking, and open flames such as candles, and incense are the top causes in residence fires lately. Residence also need to understand the level of damage that can and will occur if either a true fire or just a smoke detects is alarmed.

In the scenario, one candle could cause a large series of problems. If the candle were to be lit and the burn out smoke seemed to be caught by the smoke detector instantly triggering the sprinkler systems. The sprinkler systems flood the room with water which in turn creates water damage. Not only water damage to the room where the incident began but the surrounding rooms are affected as well. Residence will have to suffer through the water damage but are also faced with relocation while the damages are fixed. As well as the possible damage to valuables, sentiments, school work caused by the sprinklers. In possible scenarios like these the damage done to a residence hall or dorm building is detrimental. Another reason to follow the fire safety laws in residence halls is to prevent situations like these from occurring.

In the simplest terms knowing fire safety information saves lives. Whether it’s in your own home/residence or in your place of employment, education and clear markings of important fire hazards and safety equipment can prevent injuries and save structures if people are well aware of everything they need to know. Depending upon the environment where you are living or working will dictate how much communication is needed. Larger buildings, including tall apartment buildings, require more complexity and greater clarity, to keep everyone safe in the event of an emergency. Firstly, the most important thing to do in the event of a fire is to exit the building in a safe and orderly manner. In order to accomplish this, everyone should be aware of all the fire exits. This should include advising people to not take elevators when leaving a building. People should also be aware of what a fire alarm sounds like to make sure everyone is clear what the appropriate response is in the event that is activated.

This includes teaching everyone on whether sprinklers and other devices will activate as this can often be surprise to many. People should also stay aware of any fire hazards.  This includes basic electrical equipment that many homes and offices have such as a coffeemaker. These devices can generate a large amount of heat and cause fires if left on. Devices like these should be indicated as hazards and switched off when not in use. Certain work environments and homes also include possible fire hazards in the form of open flames and large electrical equipment that can catch fire. Identify these to everyone who lives and works around them. In addition to laws and rules established to help prevent these situations, detection systems have also been placed in residence halls and living quarters to make students and residence aware of dangers such as smoke, fire, carbon monoxide and other emergencies. As precautions for the incidents fire alarms and detection systems were installed in residential buildings.

Fire alarms are the first response system for fire safety in populated buildings and alerting students, visitors, and faculty members of a fire or potential emergency. Certified fire protection technicians are required to properly test, maintain, and install fire alarm systems throughout an entire campus. Fire safety regulations are set both state-wide and locally. These regulations are important to make sure your campus appears up to code and requirements for protecting the students inside. Fire alarms have been developed in many types which decrease the number of fire accidents and deal with all types of fires. Over the years many different designs for fire alarms have been invented to improve the awareness rate and the speed in which they work. In recent years fire alarm systems have been modernized or updated and now have the ability to alert the closest fire department to respond ever faster to prevent as much damage as possible.

Having fire alarms or smoke detector and other safety precautions installed in your homes and dorms is highly recommended and, in most cases, they are required by law. As a student or a resident informing yourself of general fire safety laws is highly encouraged. Also making yourself aware of the correct procedures to follow if a fire occurs in your specific building helps to prevent careless acts which could very easily turn into a fire. Fire safety does not protect us from fire. It will at least make the reader aware and likely cut down on possible fires or hazardous conditions. The more people are aware and reminded of the common situations that tend to cause fires the more likely they are to revise situations and prevent fire causing factors that could be present.

Regardless of what causes a fire, many experts agree that lack of knowledge about fire prevention is the real issue. While most students learned about fire safety in elementary school, they need additional training or reminders in further years. Each campus has a safety department that sets and enforces fire safety policies and inspections. Buildings must have smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and fire alarms in accordance with Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and International Fire Code. Campus safety departments organize and carry out fire drills, and instruct students about evacuation procedures, types and use of fire extinguishers, and how to correctly report a fire.

Throughout all the safety laws, prevention protocols, and incident procedures proves just how important fire safety is in life today. The expansion of corrected laws and the growing in knowledge of fires, we are now safer than ever before if, we learn to follow them. Safety laws are not put in place to pester residence about being carful while using technology, cooking, straightening their hair, drying clothes, ironing, etc. Fire safety laws are established in hopes to prevent any possible property damage and especially harming of people. Fires are not something to take lightly they can cause serious damage and injuries in extreme cases death.
