Chapter-1

Introduction

Problem Summary:

Earthquakes, firefighting, bomb blasting, landslides,cyclones, floods are some of the natural disasters keep making us realize that there is no power bigger than that of the nature around us.

With the evolution of science and technology at an uncontrolled pace,and the creation of sky scraper buildings and dwellingsand encroachments everywhere, the risks of losing life due to such calamities has all the more increased and added to the chaos.

Moreover, with the advancement in nuclear technology, the risks of manmade calamities like nuclear explosions and nuclear radiation leaks have also reached an all-time high.

Many people get killed instantly due to these natural and manmade disasters when they hit a region. Many others get trapped under debris for hours and days because their presence there cannot be detected by the rescue teams easily. Hence, they die a painful death as help could not reach them on time.

The rescue team workers cannot enter certain parts in such calamity hit zones. And if they do, a rescue worker may end up being a victim himself. For these reasons and others in this paper, we are discussing about a alive human detection robot.

Human Detection Robot is a robot that can detect he presence of human; it sends the signal from the transmitter side to the receiver side and notifies it tothe user by continuous buzz and also sends location to user.

A unique passive Infrared sensor is used in our design that emits infrared rays to detect humans.

As a human body emits thermal radiation it will be received and manipulated by the PIR (Passive infrared sensor). Once a human target is located the system has to give an alert which may help to localize the victim location as soon as possible. The main design of the robot consists of a ‘Human Detection Module’ carried by a mobile robot platform sufficiently small enough to wander around the area and carry out its search activity.

Robot can be carried to any place in the world and can be assembled in some few hours for fast search and rescue operations. The design is simple with the cheapest budget.

Design Engineering Activities

As a coherent study of the Design Engineering principles, we carried out a detailed study on our project problem definition using the effective means of market survey and social impact survey activities.

After meeting a couple of people who are interested in our project idea, we persuaded them to take our survey and we received some insightful and significant understanding on the eclectic facets of our end system.

AEIOU Canvas

AEIOU is an investigative tool to help interpret observations gathered by ethnographic practices in the field. It is an Observation tool. Its two primary functions are to code data, and to develop building blocks of models that will ultimately address the objectives and issues of a client.

Ideation Canvas

Ideation is the process where you generate ideas and solutions through sessions such as Sketching, Prototyping, Brainstorming, Brainwriting, Worst Possible Idea, and a wealth of other ideation techniques.

Ideation is also the third stage in the Design Thinking process. Although many people might have experienced a “brainstorming” session before, it is not easy to facilitate a truly fruitful ideation session. In this article, we’ll teach you some processes and guidelines which will help you facilitate and prepare for productive, effective, innovative and fun ideation sessions.

It is a tool that a learner can use to gain a depth of insight into the emotions of a user of their choice. It helps in identifying specific act by the user in a given circumstances or conditions.

Through imaginations, a learner learns to create or visualize scenarios using one’s thoughts.

1) ROBOT :

A remote control vehicle is defined as any vehicle that is teleoperated by a means that does not restrict its motion with an origin external to the device.

This is often a radio control device, cable between control and vehicle, or an infrared controller.

2.)D6T THERMAL SENSOR:

Omron Electronics D6T Series MEMS Thermal Sensors are super-sensitive infrared temperature sensors that make full use of Omron’s proprietary MEMS sensing technology.

Unlike typical pyroelectric human presence sensors that rely on motion detection, the D6T thermal sensor is able to detect the presence of stationary humans by detecting body heat, and can therefore be used to automatically switch off unnecessary lighting, air conditioning, etc.

when people are not present. As the D6T sensor is also able to monitor the temperature of a room, it can also be used to continually maintain optimal room temperature levels, instantly sense unusual changes in temperature thereby detecting factory line stoppages, or discover areas of overheating for early prevention of fire outbreaks.

3)GPS Sensor

As we know GPS stands for Global Positioning System. The system contains satellites and ground based control installations. GPS sensor consists of surface mount chip which processes signals from GPS satellites using a small rectangular antenna, often mounted on the top of the GPS chip.

GPS module is usually small board on which GPS sensor is mounted with additional components.

GPS receiver is a device which includes data display and other components such as memory for data storage in addition to GPS module.

4) GSM

In these days, the GSM mobile terminal has become one of the items that are constantly with us. Just like our wallet/purse, keys or watch, the GSM mobile terminal provides us a communication channel that enables us to communicate with the world. The requirement for a person to be reachable or to call anyone at any time is very appealing.

In this project, as the name says project is based on GSM network technology for transmission of SMS from sender to receiver. SMS sending and receiving is used for ubiquitous access of appliances and allowing breach control at home. The system proposes two sub-systems. Appliance control subsystem enables the user to control home appliances remotely and the security alert subsystem gives the automatic security monitoring.

The system is capable enough to instruct user via SMS from a specific cell number to change the condition of the home appliance according to the user’s needs and requirements. The second aspect is that of security alert which is achieved in a way that on the detection of intrusion, the system allows automatic generation of SMS thus alerting the user against security risk.

5) AT89C52 Microcontroller :

The AT89C52 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcomputer with 8K bytes of Flash programmable and erasable read only memory (PEROM).

The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high-density nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with the industry-standard 80C51 and 80C52 instruction set and pinout. The on-chip Flash allows the program memory to be reprogrammed in-system or by a conventional nonvolatile memory programmer.

By combining a versatile 8-bit CPU with Flash on a monolithic chip, the Atmel AT89C52 is a powerful microcomputer which provides a highly-flexible and cost-effective solution to many embedded control applications.

Every project has a degree of novelty while it leaves some threads open for extended research & development.

Aligned with this concept, there is indeed plenty of scope of future work on the ideas rendered through this project. The extended work on this project may not be limited to but involve the following areas where it can be of extreme help:

Summary and benchmarking

Human Detection Robot will be really helpful for saving the lives of people. As natural calamities are occuring more now a days ,invention like this can be used.By doing this project ,we will be able to think like a designer thinks, act like a developer acts and work like a hard worker.

Also we are getting to know that how hard a life of a developer could be, as we are facing number of challenges on every steps – everyday. Still it is very interesting and fascinating task to design a whole system.
