My family did move from Durban at Kwamashu to Nongoma because my grandmother wanted to be close to my great grandmother. Her and my grandfather had problems then my grandmother decided to pack her clothes, she took her children and went back to Nongoma since it is where she was born.

Her great grandfather was no longer in a good condition hence she saw the reason of going back home. She moved to Kwamashu because she got married to her husband.

During that time planting and hunting was the only way to survive for them although my grandmother was working for a doctor as doctor’s assistance so that she could earn some cash and provide for the family. There was a time where by my grandmother could not afford to provide for the family because she was not working anymore.

One time she was found Lying on the road because she got beaten up by policeman. Things happen the way they did because it was during apartheid time. The past did affect her family in a good way because it taught them to be a united family, support each other through it all.

He said that his family did move from Kwamashu to Nongoma because his parents had problems. He had asthma and it was worse to him. He’s father did not wanted to make a will for the family because he was insisting that he was going to die during that time. Doctors did gave him medication which he would sometimes, sometime he will not use it which is why it did no wanted to get any better which is one of the reasons why they left at Kwamashu to Nongoma because they were avoiding problems but rather go back home to start and new life and make it better from there and besides children from Kwamashu are different from children at Nongoma because a rural area is different from an urban area and it is obvious that the way families raise their children it is different.

He used to drink alcohol a lot, he’s mother tried to change him but he never did and the environment does affect how a person grows, that is why he’s mother decided to take her two children they had and leave. He’s mom was a breadwinner in their family. She worked hard. We never slept with an empty stomach because his mother was providing for them. She used to do washing from house to house in order to get money. She was also working for a doctor, helping her when there was a lot of patience so she would help the doctor with loads of work that was needed to be done the she would earn money.

The worse time for his family was when his grandmother died, it was hard for his mother because his because he also lost her son which is he’s brother. It was happening all at once then it created a stress to his mother, which will affect them also as her children she managed to overcome every challenged we faced as a family. Things happened on how they did because they groom us as Africans to change all the bad situations. Things that happened in the past did affect his family in a positive way because somehow it taught him to become a better person in the world that we are living in. he did all of what he did because he wanted the future generation in his family not to suffer in terms of what they have been through before.

She said that her family did move from Pietermaritzburg to Kwangcolosi because Faith and her husband wanted to start their own family and make a home for their children in a new environment. Although her great grandmother used to grow crops and sell them for people as a street vender, and then Faith would sell those crops on school so that her family would be able to buy other things they needed to have. Manelisi never knew her uncle and the reason her mother told her was that her uncle went missing during the relocation of her grandmother and grandfather reason for that was that he was shot but the policeman.

Faith’s Children did not get enough time to spend with her grandfather and also them as the generation of Faith and her husband which was difficult for the family because after everything they have been though as a family, her grandfather decided to leave Faith just like nothing and he never showed up after. Things happened the way they did because of cultured rules back then had it been that a man had respect for women the her grandfather would not have cheated and throw Faith and their children out. also apartheid system had it been not been for policeman who kill day by day, Faith would have been enthusiastic to go look for her uncle but rather she told her self her uncle was dead. Everything that happened in the past did affect her family because; she does not know her uncle. And as a family they learned to stick together through the worse even though her grandfather kicked them out but they remained together.

They did relocate from Pietermaritzburg to KwaNgcolosi because Faith got married at a very young age. Faith came from a very humbled background which is one of the reasons why Faith got married, her parents wanted her to. Her parents got 11 cows for her because she was still a virgin. They wanted those cows for the purpose of selling them so that they could support the family after she quitted school.

Faith’s husband kicked her and their children out of their home after he got married to another woman and made her his second wife, and he did not support faith and their children at all after kicking them out. A parent must take a full responsibility of making sure that the child’s needs are provided (The Children’s Act explained, 2001, Desia Colgana). Faith decided to live with her twin sister at KwaNgcolosi until she became financially stable and build a home for her children. Her mother used to would grow crops and then Faith would sell them at school. In the early 1980s The Situation at home became difficult for the family when Faith left school because her parent told her to due to the boycott of students. Boycott in 1980 at Pietermaritzburg was too bad in such a way that classes were burnt (South Africa a Morden History, 2000, Rodney Davenport and Christopher Saunders’s).

She had miscarriage and that was the worse time in her family because her mother in-law told her husband to leave Faith because she cannot carry children and that created a barrier to the family because her husband and her mother in-law ended up not getting along and because her mother in-law did not want to accept her in her family as a wife from the first place. The worse time of her family was during the relocation from Pietermaritzburg because one of her children who are Manelisi’s uncle went missing and was never found. Some said that he was shot by policeman; some said he was not mentally stable. Manelisi’s grandmother could have been enthusiastic to go look for her son but rather she told herself that her son was dead. Most of the things that happened in the past did affect the present of the Mvelase family because Manelisi would have knew her grandfather by now and Faith would have spent more her days of her life with her husband and her children would have enjoyed the perks and a Father and a grandfather to Manelisi in the family.
