Emotional intelligence is a personal and social intelligence that enables a person to perceive, understand and manage their own emotions and the emotions of others, express and control emotions appropriately and listen to others with empathy.
Emotional intelligence requires good interpersonal skills, being able to recognise ones own and other feelings and having sound relationships and self motivationThe Emotional intelligence theory was introduced by Daniel Goleman and according to him the four dimension of Emotional Intelligence are, self awareness, self management, social awarenss and relationship management (Management ,Slocum, Staude, Louw and Zindiye page 43 47)
Assessment of Erin Brockovichs emotional Intelligence
1.1 Self awareness
Self awareness is defined as the ability to recognise ones own emotions and their effects on others.
Erin was aware of her emotions but never assessed them, the way she was communicating with her colleagues shows that she did not have good interpersonal skills and all her colleagues were against her
She was mainly focusing on being a best character to her children, she didnt have a balance between work and other life activities
1.2 Self managementSelf management is defined as understanding how to control disruptive emotions and drives. A person need to manage those emotions in order to establish a positive relations with his/her employees
Erin in this case didnt have self management skills. The way she talking to her boss Ed, it show that she didnt know how to control her emotions. When Ed was addressing the issue of the dress code, she just told him straight in his face the she will wear whatever she likes.
1.3 Social Awareness
Social awareness is defined as good at understanding others situations and taking active interests in their concerns at a personal level and that is empathy.
Enrin has good relations with her clients compared to her colleagues. She was very emphathic to her clients and manage to well with them. She even went an extra mile by working away from her children trying to make all her clients to sign a petition
1.4 Relationship management
Relationship management is defined as the ability to lead others and work with others in order to build interpersonal relations, achieving shared goals and resolving disagreements.
Enrin was not able to work with her colleagues and also not able to manage and resolve conflict but was able to work well with her clients . She was not a team player, she preferred working alone
Erin is a reliable ,dependable and able to work under pressure. She managed to work alone on the case that she was investigating and was working under pressure as she has children that she needed to look after work.
She is an extrovert as she is outgoing and sociable. She was not agreeable to most of the things as she always wanted her opinion to be heard. When coming to conscientiousness she was organized and dependable ,she could do her job without supervision. Her emotional stability was neurotic and anxious. She was also open but not to her colleagues only when she interact with her clients(A Woods and A West page 55)

4.There are three different theories of motivation: Maslow hierarchy of needs,Alderfer ERG Theory and Herzbergs Two Factor Theory(A Woods and A West page 122 124)
According to Maslow Hierachy of Needs Erin has the following needs:
Physiological: Enrins was motivated by money and fighting for her familys survival (also Existence need according to Alderfer ERG Theory)
Safety: She needed a job security and a safe environment for her kids while she is working during the day
Social: She had a need to be loved and to belong as she ended up having a boyfriend that loved her and looked after her kids (also similar to Relatedness need according to Alderfer ERG Theory)
Self Esteem: She strived for personal accomplishment and competence as she won the case against
Five ways in which Erin was motivated includes the the reward she got for winning the case (Physiological).The job she got from Eds company (Safety).The love she got from her boyfriend even after she divorced twice (Social).The respect she got from his clients (Esteem) and she fulfilled her potential (Self actualisation)
