Analysis of Leo Tolstoy's theory of art

Topics: Leo Tolstoy

In the wake of perusing Tolstoy’s theory of art, I began to understand that Tolstoy’s tasteful view about the hypothesis of craftsmanship is one of an exemplary position. He portrays workmanship comparable to how it can impact and be a type of an expression for virtues. Tolstoy believe that workmanship is about the showing of thought and how individuals can be centralize to understanding and offering the feelings evoked through craftsmanship. Tolstoy doesn’t consider craftsmanship as a workmanship on the off chance that it doesn’t incite view of delight, passionate or profound unification with another person.

Aesthetic creation is such mental action as carries faintly apparent sentiments to such an extent of clearness, that these emotions are transmitted to others. He acknowledges that workmanship should give us moral activities and improving our experience. Tolstoy’s concept of workmanship is across the board, which infers that anyone can be moved by it, paying little regard to his monetary prosperity or having a spot.

Workmanship is comprehensive because it spends on feelings and contemplations that are experienced by each person.

As indicated by Tolstoy, great workmanship is understandable and conceivable. Terrible workmanship is incoherent and unlimited. The more that workmanship confines itself to a specific crowd, the darker and more boundless it becomes to individuals outside that specific crowd. Great workmanship isn’t confounding and tremendous to the vast majority. Despite what might be expected, acceptable craftsmanship can impart its significance to a great many people, since it communicates its importance in a way which can be comprehended by everybody.

I believe that Tolstoy say that art cannot be taught, or that instruction in the practice of art can help people to communicate their thoughts and feelings more sincerely. He argues that to teach art is to destroy its identity of the artistic and true value of the work. An example similar to this is plagiarism where you use other people work for your own paper without citing. To encourage workmanship is to devastate the irregularity of the craftsman. Any effort to instruct craftsmanship prompts an effort to copy different masterpieces. I believe that art is your view of the world and the way you view the world/art. Your views can not be taught by other but to find out yourself throughout your life.

Tolstoy gives us some examples of where this stupidity and vulgarity is headed: cuisine perfumes clothes magic shows acrobatics and any trivial artifact or production which provides pleasure to the consumer can be called art. worst of all are those consequences for the relations between the sexes: the romantic degrades into the purely sensual which descends rapidly into the depraved. Tolstoy narrates the logic of the necessary decadence of modern aesthetic theories and explains their necessarily degrading effects. the doctrines of beauty because they do not relate art to feelings which emerge from the religious consciousness of the age and because they do not determine the higher moral purpose of art in human life are dehumanizing; they make men ever more asocial and lead to sexual depravities which means they destroy the family. This shocking result of Tolstoy’s simple and clear reasoning will undoubtedly appear incredible to his readers so that he must repeat and develop it many times over throughout the work.
