A Personal Statement for the World Bank Young Professionals Program

Being part of the World Bank Young Professional Program (YPP) will enable me to use my research and field experience to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity in our world. As a person with research skill being part of the problem will enable me to contribute to developing nations’ sustainable economic development Being raised in a Sub-Saharan country where economic inequality and gender bias were not just statistics but day-to-day realities had a profound impact on my educational and career goals.

I was fortunate enough to be raised in a household where the importance of education was understood no matter what gender a child was, and that has given me a head start. But it also showed me how blessed I am. My upbringing is a reminder for me that my professional and educational success is not only my personal goal but also my way of making an impact in the community that raised me, a way of paying back the community that gave me so much from the little it had.

My personal background has also caused me to be very aware of the necessity of diversity in any world organization that aim to end extreme poverty, especially when it comes to an organization such as the World Bank. It is due to that convection that I decide to apply for the YPI’, I believe that diversity (whether it be ideological, experience, gender or race] will bring a rich conversation and point of view in how to build human capital, foster resilience to global shock and accelerate sustainably and include economic development.
